Michigan Governor Granholm Allocates More Than $6.8 Million in No Worker Left Behind Funds for Job Training of Welfare Recipient

November 15, 2007 - As part of her No Worker Left Behind initiative, Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced that $6,836,583 has been presented to Michigan Works! Agencies (MWAs) to provide customized training to help welfare recipients obtain good-paying jobs and become self-sufficient.

"Transforming Michigan's economy starts by ensuring all workers have the skills employers need now," said Granholm. "This career training will help low income workers move off welfare by getting a good job and attaining financial independence."    » read more »

Alabama AG Announces 2nd Arrest For Welfare Fraud At Birmingham Store

September 27, 2007 -- (MONTGOMERY) — Alabama Attorney General Troy King today announced a second arrest in a case involving welfare fraud at a Birmingham grocery store. Faramarz Mohammadi-pour, 48, of Hoover, was arrested on September 21. Mohammadi-pour, also known as Faramarz Mohammadipour, is an employee of Family Supermarket at 513 23rd Street North in Birmingham. The store's owner—Abolghassem Mohammadipour, also known as Abolghassem Mohammadi Pour, 59, also of Hoover—was arrested on July 24 on related charges.    » read more »

Alabama AG King Announces 10-Year Prison Sentence For Welfare Fraud In Morgan County

August 27, 2007 -- MONTGOMERY — Alabama Attorney General Troy King announced that a Somerville man was sentenced today to serve 10 years in prison for welfare fraud. James Shea, 58, pleaded guilty in Morgan County Circuit Court on August 23 to committing second-degree theft of food stamp benefits, by misprepresenting his household income and resources. Because of previous felony convictions for crimes related to distribution of drugs, he was sentenced today as an habitual offender to serve the 10 year sentence in prison without a period of probation, and ordered to pay restitution.    » read more »

Missouri Governor Blunt Announces Job Training Grants for Welfare Recipients

August 24, 2007 -- JEFFERSON CITY – Missouri Governor Matt Blunt today announced that eight community action agencies are the recipients of $3,221,236 million dollars in Community Work Support Grant Awards to help welfare recipients gain the skills they need to move from poverty and dependence and into jobs and productive lives. Pennsylvania Governor Rendell Announces $2 Million Investment In Welfare-To-Work Transit

August 14, 2007 -- HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell today announced a $2.35 million investment in the state’s welfare-to-work transportation program to help low-income residents in 31 counties get to work.
