08/18/2007 -- Following tonight's game against the New York Mets, the Washington Nationals designated outfielder Ryan Langerhans for assignment and reinstated right-handed pitcher Jesus Colome from the 15-day disabled list. Vice President/general manager Jim Bowden made the announcement.

Langerhans batted .182 with five homers and 19 RBIs in 86 games with Washington after being acquired from Oakland on May 2. He started 38 games in center field for the Nationals.    » read more »

Washington Nationals Reinstate Right-Hander Shawn Hill from 15-Day Disabled List

08/14/2007 -- The Washington Nationals today reinstated right-handed pitcher Shawn Hill from the 15-day disabled list. Vice President/General Manager Jim Bowden made the announcement.

Shawn Hill will start tonight's Washington Nationals series opener vs. Philadelphia Phillies at RFK Stadium.

The 26-year-old was placed on the 15-day DL May 14, retroactive to May 12, with a strained left shoulder. He went 3-3 with a 2.70 ERA in eight starts before the injury.

Shawn Hill is 5-8 with a 4.70 ERA in 17 career starts.

Josh Smoker this morning underwent a physical exam, which included a Gadolinium MRI of his left shoulder and left elbow. All tests came back negative.    » read more »

Washington Nationals Option Left-Hander Billy Traber to Triple-A Columbus

08/12/2007 -- Following today's series finale at Arizona, the Washington Nationals optioned left-handed pitcher Billy Traber to Triple-A Columbus. Vice President/General Manager Jim Bowden made the announcement.

Billy Traber went 2-2 with a 4.76 ERA in 28 games, including two starts, after having his contract selected from Columbus on May 16. The 27-year-old went 2-0 with a 4.22 ERA (15 ER/32.0 IP) in 26 relief appearances and 0-2 with a 7.04 ERA (6 ER/7.2 IP) in his two starts. Opposing left-handed batters hit just .176 (9-for-51) against him overall.    » read more »

08 August 2007 -- San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds may have set the new Major League Baseball home run record, but that did not help his team win Tuesday night's game. The Washington Nationals came back to defeat the Giants 8-6.

The Atlanta Braves beat the Mets 7-3, moving to within 3.5 games of the New York franchise in the battle to lead the National League East division.

In the American League, the Los Angeles Angels stumped Boston 10-4. The Red Sox had taken a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning but the Angels responded with five runs in their half-inning and never looked back.    » read more »

5/15/2007 - WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- The Washington Nationals baseball team saluted the military during an evening pre-game program May 11 that featured fireworks, a group enlistment and servicemembers tossing ceremonial pitches.

Military Appreciation Night activities held at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium here also included Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon R. England, who met with Army, Marine, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard members in attendance.

MLB: Nationals Beat Marlins on Post-Midnight Grand Slam

13 May 2007 -- In a Major League Baseball game that ended nearly two hours after midnight with a grand slam, the Washington Nationals beat the Florida Marlins, 7-3.

Ryan Zimmerman hit the game-ending, bases-loaded blast with two outs in the ninth inning of the contest, which was delayed nearly four hours by rain.

Florida led 3-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth, which was delayed 47 minutes by the second rainstorm of the game here in the nation's capital.    » read more »
