Washington, DC - 03/26/2009 - As many as three million registered voters did not cast a ballot in the 2008 General Election due to voter registration problems, suggests a survey cited today by Doug Chapin, director of Election Initiatives for the Pew Center on the States in testimony before the Subcommittee on Elections of the Committee on House Administration. The problem was most acute for younger voters and registered voters who moved less than a year ago, one in four of whom said that a problem with their registration was a major reason why they did not cast a ballot.    » read more »

Three Million Registered Voter Mark Surpassed

January 27, 2009 -- PHOENIX -- Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett today released new statewide voter registration figures compiled as of January 1, 2009. For the first-time in Arizona 's history the number of registered voters surpassed the three million mark with a total of 3,070,654 registered voters, an increase of 83,203 since the 2008 General Election.

There are now 1,140,609 registered Republicans statewide, an increase of 22,022 since the General Election. Democrats now total 1,047,126, an increase of 24,874. Both the Libertarian and Green parties also saw an increase in registered voters with Libertarians gaining 473 voters for a total of 18,626 while the Green party added 189 registered voters for a total of 4,198.    » read more »

May 10, 2008 -- Chicago, IL - The Barack Obama campaign launched Vote for Change, a 50-state voter registration and mobilization drive, with 101 kickoff events across the county today. Thousands of grassroots volunteers joined with elected officials and activists to register new voters and engage more people in the democratic process in advance of the November election.

January 25, 2008 -- Trenton, NJ – New Jersey Voter registration figures have climbed by 48,000 people since the November 6 general election in advance of the February 5 presidential primary election, with a total of 4,844,213 residents eligible to cast ballots in the Republican and Democratic party contests.

However, compared to the last presidential primary election in June 2004, statewide voter registration is up more than 221,000.

The new statewide figures follow the close of registration on January 15 for the February 5 primary election.    » read more »

May 2, 2007 -- PHOENIX -- Arizona Secretary of State Jan Brewer has released the voter registration figures for the State of Arizona for the second quarter of 2007. The statewide voter registration total has increased to 2,609,585 up 15,188 since the first quarter.

There are 1,019,220 registered Republicans, a decrease of 202, since January. Registered Democrats total 858,988, a decrease of 750 and registered Libertarians number 18,612, a decrease of 148 registered voters during that same period.    » read more »
