MONDAY, MARCH 17, 2008, WASHINGTON – Dr. Lucien A. Moolenaar II, DDS, former acting commissioner of the Virgin Islands Department of Health, was sentenced to 15 months in prison after having been found guilty on charges of stealing government funds, grand larceny and making false statements, Assistant Attorney General Alice S. Fisher of the Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Anthony J. Jenkins of the District of the Virgin Islands announced today.    » read more »

EPA Annual Toxics Report Details Chemicals Released from Facilities in the U.S. Virgin Islands

02/21/2008, New York, N.Y. -- The latest Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) data was released today for chemical releases into the air, water and land by facilities in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) in record time by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The report, which covers releases in 2006, shows a decrease of approximately 24,000 pounds of sulfuric acid mist from the Hovensa oil refinery in Kings Hill, St. Croix due to the processing of crude oil with lower sulfur content.    » read more »

Department of Defense Identifies Army Casualties

September 13, 2007 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of seven soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died Sept. 10 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related vehicle rollover. They were assigned to the 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Killed were:

Staff Sgt. Yance T. Gray, 26, of Ismay, Mont.

Staff Sgt. Gregory Rivera-Santiago, 26, of St. Croix, Virgin Islands.

Sgt. Michael C. Hardegree, 21, of Villa Rica, Ga.    » read more »
