August 28, 2007 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Rogelio A. Ramirez, 21, of Pasadena, California, died Aug. 26 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

August 27, 2007 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Matthew S. Medlicott, 21, of Houston, Texas, died Aug. 25 from wounds suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

August 14, 2007 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Michael E. Tayaotao, 27, of Sunnyvale, California, died Aug. 9 from wounds suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

He was assigned to 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

August 10, 2007 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Cpl. Reynold Armand, 21, of Rochester, New York, died Aug. 7 in Balad, Iraq.

He was assigned to 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

The death is currently under investigation.

Governor calls for flags to be flown at half staff to honor Ft. Dodge soldier

August 10, 2007 -- (Des Moines) Iowa Governor Chet Culver ordered that all flags in the state be flown at half staff on Monday, August 13th 2007, from 8 a.m. (CST) until sunset in honor of Marine Sgt. Jon Bonnell, Jr., 22, of Ft. Dodge who died on August 6th, 2007, while serving in Iraq.    » read more »

09 August 2007 -- The U.S. Marines have dropped charges against a captain and a lance corporal in connection with the deaths of 24 Iraqi civilians in the town of Haditha two years ago.

In the most serious criminal case involving civilian deaths in the Iraq war, a military judge dismissed three counts of murder against Lance Corporal Justin Sharratt, saying there was insufficient evidence to prosecute. Captain Randy Stone was cleared of failing to properly investigate the alleged massacre.    » read more »

July 18, 2007 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Shawn V. Starkovich, 20, of Arlington, Washington, died July 16 in Al Anbar province, Iraq. His death is under investigation.

Starkovich was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Cpl. Jeremy D. Allbaugh, 21, of Luther, Oklahoma.

Lance Cpl. Steven A. Stacy, 23, of Coos Bay, Oregon.

Both Marines died July 5 from wounds suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

July 05, 2007 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of two Marines who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lance Cpl. William C. Chambers, 20, of Ringgold, Georgia

Lance Cpl. Jeremy L. Tinnel, 20, of Mechanicsville, Virginia

Both Marines died July 1 from a non-hostile boat accident in the Euphrates River just off the shore of Al Anbar province.

They were both assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. The accident is under investigation.
