DoD Identifies Marine Casualty: Cpl. Erik T. Garoutte, 22, of Santee, California

October 20, 2007 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Cpl. Erik T. Garoutte, 22, of Santee, California, died Oct. 19 in Baghdad, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team Company, Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Norfolk, Va.

The incident is currently under investigation.

October 09, 2007 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Jeremy W. Burris, 22, of Tacoma, Washington, died Oct. 8 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

October 02, 2007 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Gunnery Sgt. Herman J. Murkerson Jr., 35, of Adger, Alabama, died Oct. 1 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

He was assigned to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C.

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

US Military Disciplines Three Marine Officers in 2005 Iraqi Civilian Killings

06 September 2007 -- The U.S. military says it has censured three Marine officers for failing to properly investigate the 2005 killings of 24 Iraqi civilians in the town of Haditha.

The Marine Corps said in a statement Wednesday that the secretary of the U.S. Navy issued letters of censure to a former commanding general, Major General Richard Huck, and two colonels, Stephen Davis and Robert Sokoloski, for their responses to the killings.    » read more »

US Marine Faces Hearing in 2005 Iraqi Civilian Killings

30 August 2007 -- A military hearing will be held Thursday in California to determine if a U.S. Marine sergeant will be court-martialed in the massacre of 24 Iraqi civilians in 2005.

Sergeant Frank Wuterich was one of four enlisted Marines charged with murder in the November 19, 2005 incident in the town of Haditha. The killings occurred after a fellow Marine was killed by a roadside bomb.    » read more »
