Specter, Lieberman, King Introduce Free Speech Protection Act

This bill would protect American journalists from libel suits brought in foreign courts that do not have the same protections for free speech that are found in the U.S. constitution. Britain Delays Iraq Troop Withdrawal
01 April 2008 -- Britain's defense secretary has announced plans to reduce troop levels in southern Iraq have been postponed after a recent flare-up of violence around the city of Basra.
Defense Secretary Des Browne told members of parliament that the expected spring homecoming for thousands of British troops based in Basra has been delayed.
"In October we announced our plan from drawing down UK troops from southern Iraq," he said. "In the light of last week's events, however, it is prudent that we pause any further reductions while the current situation has unfolding. British Court Throws Out Convictions of Five Muslims
14 February 2008 -- In a Landmark decision, a three judge Court of Appeal panel, headed by the country's most senior judge, overturned Wednesday the convictions of five young British Muslim men who were jailed last July for having obtained information on terrorism from the internet.
The young men aged between 20 and 22 were serving sentences of two to three years for possessing articles for terrorist purposes under the British Terrorism Act of 2002. » read more »

Rockets Slam into British Base in Iraq, Wounding Two
31 January 2008 -- Rockets have slammed into a British base in southern Iraq, wounding at least two British soldiers.
A British military spokesman in Basra, Captain Finn Aldrich, says no major damage was reported on the base, but added that one of the rockets landed outside the entry gates for Iraqi civilian employees. A number of Iraqi casualties were reported.
British forces handed over control of Basra to Iraqi forces in mid-December as warnings rose that it could descend into violent turf wars between rival Shi'ite Militias. » read more »
