California Governor Schwarzenegger Applauds Federal Approval of New Nonstop Flight from California to China

09/25/2007 -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded a new nonstop United Airlines flight from San Francisco to Guangzhou, China:

“Today’s decision not only opens more doors to increase trade with our partners in the Pacific Rim, but also creates more opportunities for tourists to visit our great state. This flight will help our state’s economy by creating new jobs.”

United Airlines will begin nonstop service between San Francisco and Guangzhou in 2008.    » read more »

Kentucky Tourism Aggressively Seeks International Travelers

Monday, September 10, 2007, FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Department of Tourism has beefed up its recruitment of the international traveler with the addition of one overseas office and the expansion of another.

As Governor Ernie Fletcher announced, Kentucky opened an international travel office in Japan and has increased its European presence with an expanded London office that also will include marketing efforts in Ireland and Germany. UN Warns World at Greater Risk from Infectious Diseases

23 August 2007 -- The World Health Organization says infectious diseases are spreading around the world at a faster rate than ever before, making them more difficult to treat.

In its annual World Health Report, issued Thursday, the United Nations agency says one or more new diseases have been identified every year since the 1970s, a rate it says is "unprecedented."
