Connecticut Governor Rell Announces Results of Statewide Sweep for Recalled Toys

Department of Consumer Protection Inspectors Find 127 Remaining Items

September 1, 2007 -- Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell today released the results from a statewide sweep of Connecticut stores that she directed the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) to conduct in order to check for any toys that were part of the recent nationwide recalls.

DCP inspectors began the checks on August 23 and continued through August 28. Inspectors visited 265 toy stores, department stores, discount stores and grocery stores across the state.    » read more »

China: China Defends Product Safety Record

23 August 2007 -- A senior trade official in China says a global recall of millions of Chinese-made toys was the result of new industry standards, not poor quality products.

Speaking at a press conference in Beijing Thursday, Vice Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng said that the recall was a responsible move, given that products could affect the health and safety of children.

He added that a recall of more than 18 million toys with magnets was the result of new standards that were put in place in May.    » read more »

Public Health Officials Alerting Doctors, Day Care Centers to Watch for Signs of Lead Poisoning

August 23, 2007 -- Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that she has ordered Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) inspectors to check stores across the state and remove any of the millions of popular-brand toys imported from China that were recently recalled.
