06 February 2008 -- U.S. law enforcement officials say at least 11 people have been killed and dozens injured as tornadoes and thunderstorms tore through parts of the U.S. south.

The U.S. National Weather Service reports severe weather swept across the lower Mississippi Valley, Southern Plains and Midwest Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Reports of tornadoes, wind damage and hail came from Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri.    » read more »

NAPPANEE (January 25, 2008) - Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels today delivered a check for nearly $200,000 to Nappanee Mayor Larry Thompson, the first use of the Indiana Disaster Relief Fund. The $198,423.35 check is for public assistance to help the city recover from damage to public facilities caused by an October 18, 2007 tornado that struck the community.    » read more »

January 10, 2008 -- Jefferson City, Mo. — As residents in the Ozarks begin the recovery process from this week’s tornadoes and storms, Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon says to watch out for scams. Nixon says thieves known as “storm chasers” target hard-hit areas claiming to offer home-repair services. He says storm chasers often go door-to-door, offering quick services for consumers who may be in urgent need of repairs, whether it’s a new roof, windows, siding or other work.    » read more »

January 9, 2008 -- JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri Governor Matt Blunt today announced that three joint federal, state and local damage assessment teams have begun canvassing twelve Missouri counties and collecting tornado damage information.

“Missouri was hit hard by tornadoes and severe weather this week,” Gov. Blunt said. “I witnessed first hand the devastation yesterday as I visited affected areas in Southwest Missouri. It is essential that we complete an accurate and thorough assessment of the damages to homes, businesses and other infrastructure.”    » read more »

January 08, 2008 -- MADISON - Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle today declared a state of emergency in Kenosha County following a series of rare January tornadoes that hit Wisconsin last night. The Governor surveyed the damage today in Wheatland where about 60 homes and dozens of other structures were damaged. Damages are estimated to be in the millions of dollars.    » read more »

January 8, 2008 -- JEFFERSON CITY — In the wake of the fatal tornadoes that swept across Missouri last night and that continue to threaten some areas of the state, Missouri Governor Matt Blunt is reminding families that it is important to have an emergency response plan in place before disaster strikes.

Oct 19, 2007 -- LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe has declared Crittenden and Lincoln Counties state disaster areas due to the damage caused by thunderstorms and tornadoes on Wednesday, October 17 and early Thursday, October 18.

The declaration releases $100,000 from the Governor’s Disaster Fund to be used by the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management through the Individual Assistance Program. Affected residents in both counties can apply for assistance at their local Department of Human Services offices beginning Monday, October 22.    » read more »

September 17, 2007, OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today that 12 additional counties have been approved for individual disaster assistance and 20 counties for public disaster assistance. The Presidential Disaster Declaration is the result of damages from the severe storms, flooding, and tornadoes occurring August 18-September 12.    » read more »

WACO, Texas -- Federal and State disaster officials today announced that the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Haltom City will transition to a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Outreach Center beginning Monday, September 24. The Governor's Division of Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and SBA officials opened the DRC to provide one-stop, personal assistance and disaster information to residents and businesses affected by the June 16 - August 3 severe storms, flooding and tornadoes.    » read more »
