Arizona Diamondbacks Acquire Jose Marte from Texas Rangers

Arizona D-backs sends Dustin Nippert to Texas Rangers in trade

PHOENIX, 03/28/2008 -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded right-handed pitcher Dustin Nippert to the Texas Rangers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jose Marte, as announced by Diamondbacks executive vice president and general manager Josh Byrnes.

Jose Marte split last season between Class A Bakersfield and Class A Clinton, combining to 4-4 with a 5.23 ERA (32 earned runs in 53 innings) with 38 walks, 67 strikeouts and 14 saves in 45 games.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chicago Cubs on May 1, 2001, Marte was signed by the Rangers on Nov. 1, 2004, and has been in their organization since. He had a career-high 12 saves and 71 strikeouts for Clinton in 2006.    » read more »

Texas Rangers Announce 2008 MLB Opening Day Roster

03/30/2008, SEATTLE -- The Texas Rangers announced several roster moves today in finalizing the club's 2008 MLB Opening Day 25-man roster. The Texas Rangers have made the following moves:

• Designated outfielder Nelson Cruz and right-handed pitcher Robinson Tejeda for assignment
• Selected the contracts of right-handed pitcher Franklyn German, Adam Melhuse, and Jamey Wright from Triple-A Oklahoma
• Optioned right-handed pitcher Wes Littleton to Triple-A Oklahoma
• Placed right-handed pitcher Brandon McCarthy on the 60-day disabled list...he can be reinstated on May 29.
• Placed right-handed pitcher Luis Mendoza (retroactive to March 24) and infielder Travis Metcalf (retroactive to March 21) on 15-day disabled list.    » read more »

Texas Rangers Acquire Pitcher Dustin Nippert

03/29/2008, Oklahoma City, Okla. -- The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Dustin Nippert from Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Minor League right-handed pitcher Jose Marte.

Dustin Nippert, 26, has spent time in the Major Leagues in each of the last 3 seasons. The 6-foot-7, 200-pound Nippert was competing for a spot in the Arizona bullpen this spring. He made his Major League debut in 2005, when he was the Diamondbacks' Minor League Pitcher of the Year after going 8-3 with a 2.36 ERA in 18 games/starts for Double-A Tennessee.    » read more »

FSN Southwest to Produce Record 86 Texas Rangers Games in High-Definition

65 HD games slated on FSN Southwest KDFI, KDFW to broadcast HD games for first time ever

03/27/2008 -- Texas Rangers local television rightsholder FSN Southwest will produce a record 86 games in high-definition in 2008 that will be shown on a combination of FSN Southwest and Dallas-Fort Worth broadcast stations KDFI-My 27 and KDFW Fox 4 starting with the March 31 season opener against the Seattle Mariners on FSNSW.

FSN Southwest will carry 65 HD telecasts, nearly four times as many as the 17 HD Rangers games it offered in 2007. For the first time ever, Rangers games will be broadcast in high-definition on KDFI My 27 (20 games) and KDFW FOX 4 (one game). Seventy-two of the 81 home games will be produced in high-definition, while 14 road games will be in HD.    » read more »
