Telstra Renews IT Operations and Services Agreement With IBM Until 2014
SYDNEY - 09 Jun 2009: Telstra announced today that it has extended its information technology (IT) operations and services agreement with IBM until the year 2014. The five-year contract, which is an extension of an existing services agreement, is worth a total of AU$745million. It will result in greater automation and improved remote management capability of Telstra's IT systems, while reducing server build time enabling the telecommunications giant to more efficiently execute complex projects across its IT infrastructure. » read more »

Verizon Offers National Broadband Plan Recommendations
Company's Proposal Focuses on Access, Demand and Adoption
June 8, 2009 -- WASHINGTON - Verizon on Monday (June 8) submitted its suggestions for the national broadband plan called for by Congress and President Obama. The suggestions are contained in a detailed, 10-point proposal filed with the Federal Communications Commission.
"Verizon looks forward to working with policymakers and other stakeholders in developing broadband policies that will ensure broadband availability to all Americans, encourage widespread adoption of broadband services, and empower consumers to make their own choices," Verizon said in its filing.
The FCC is assembling recommendations for Congress to consider for the plan, which is due in February 2010. » read more »
Australia's Telstra Signs Applications Services Contract with EDS
Sydney, June 8, 2009 -- EDS, an HP company, has signed one of two expanded applications services contracts – with a combined value of $330 million (AU$450 million) – that Telstra, Australia’s largest telecommunications provider, announced today to improve performance and lower costs.
EDS’ five-year, $140 million (AU$190 million) deal is one of the largest application management engagements signed this year in Australia. Its agreement also includes potential additional discretionary opportunities of up to $245 million (AU$334 million). Under the agreement, which runs through to 2014, EDS will provide applications development and management services for Telstra’s critical business applications. » read more »
Commerce Dept. to Work with ICANN, VeriSign to Enhance Security and Stability of Internet’s Domain Name and Addressing System
June 3, 2009 -- WASHINGTON —The U.S. Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced today that the two agencies are working with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and VeriSign on an initiative to enhance the security and stability of the Internet.
The parties are working on an interim approach to deployment, by year’s end, of a security technology—Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC)—at the authoritative root zone (i.e., the address book) of the Internet. There will be further consultations with the Internet technical community as the testing and implementation plans are developed. » read more »

Verizon Declares Quarterly Dividend of 46 Cents Per Share
June 4, 2009 -- NEW YORK - The Board of Directors of Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) today declared a quarterly dividend of 46 cents per outstanding share, unchanged from the previous quarter.
The dividend is payable on Aug. 3, to Verizon Communications shareowners of record at the close of business on July 10.
In 2008, the company paid dividends totaling $5.0 billion. Verizon has approximately 2.4 million shareowners and approximately 2.8 billion shares of common stock outstanding.
