Nine first-time St. Louis Cardinals & three rookies make final roster
ST. LOUIS, 03/30/2008 -- The St. Louis Cardinals today announced their 25-man roster for tomorrow's (3:15 p.m. CDT) season opener with the Colorado Rockies. The Opening Day roster includes nine first-time Cardinals and three rookies.
The team's final pre-season moves included the purchase of non-roster infielder Rico Washington and lefty reliever Ron Villone. The team also optioned pitcher Kelvin Jimenez to Memphis (AAA), returned non-roster infielder D'Angelo Jimenez to minor league camp and placed infielder Brendan Ryan (right oblique strain) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21. Busch Magnet Schedule Day: All fans 21 and over will receive a magnet with the 2008 St. Louis Cardinals schedule, compliments of Busch Beer
2:30 p.m.: Pre-game ceremonies begin with an appearance by the famed Budweiser Clydesdales.
Cardinals Hall-of-Famers and the 2008 team will be introduced via a motorcade of Ford convertibles around the warning track.
The Mini Mizzou Marching Band will play the Star-Spangled Banner, commemorating the historic 12-win season and Big 12 North Division Title of the University of Missouri football team.
Gary Pinkel, head football coach of the Missouri Tigers and Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year, will throw out a ceremonial first pitch. » read more »

JUPITER, Fla., 03/26/2008 -- The St. Louis Cardinals today announced that they have re-assigned three pitchers to their Minor League camp and have placed non-roster outfielder Juan Gonzalez on the temporarily inactive list.
The pitchers sent out today included relievers Hugo Castellanos, Chris Perez and Cliff Politte.
Following today's transactions, the St. Louis Cardinals have 27 players remaining in camp:
- 13 pitchers,
- two catchers,
- seven infielders, and
- five outfielders.

Starters Chris Carpenter, Mark Mulder, Matt Clement and Joel Piniero on list
JUPITER, Fla., 03/25/2008 -- The St. Louis Cardinals today announced that they have placed seven players on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21.
Included on the list are pitchers Chris Carpenter (right elbow), Mark Mulder (left shoulder), Matt Clement (right shoulder), Joel Pineiro (right shoulder), Tyler Johnson (left shoulder) and Josh Kinney (right elbow) and outfielder Juan Encarnacion (left orbital fracture).
Following today's transactions, the St. Louis Cardinals have 31 players remaining in camp:
- 16 pitchers,
- two catchers,
- seven infielders, and
- six outfielders.

Parisi, Motte & Mather optioned to Memphis roster
03/17/2008, JUPITER, Fla. -- The St. Louis Cardinals today announced that they have optioned pitchers Mike Parisi and Jason Motte and outfielder Joe Mather to Memphis (AAA).
The team also re-assigned pitcher Clayton Mortensen, catcher Mark Johnson and outfielder Colby Rasmus to their minor league camp.

03/09/2008, JUPITER, Fla. -- The St. Louis Cardinals today announced that they have reassigned left-handed pitcher Ron Flores and outfielder Amaury Marti to Minor League camp.
In addition, the St. Louis Cardinals optioned the contract of IF Brian Barden to Triple-A Memphis.
The St. Louis Cardinals now have 48 players remaining in Major League camp.

St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Player Scott Vander Weg Suspended
02/20/2008 -- The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that St. Louis Cardinals Minor League player Scott Vander Weg has received a 50-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
The suspension will be effective at the start of the 2008 season.
Last season, Scott Vander Weg pitched for Single-A Palm Beach of the Florida State League.
