November 15, 2009 -- On November 15, President Obama participated in the 17th Annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ meeting in Singapore. APEC members account for 53% of global GDP, purchase 58% of U.S. goods exports, and represent a market of 2.7 billion consumers. In 2008, U.S. goods exports to the Asia-Pacific totaled $747 billion, an increase of 8.3% over 2007. Sergey Bubka to Chair Coordination Commission for the First Summer Youth Olympic Game
28 February 2008 -- A few days after naming Singapore as the host city of the first Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2010, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced the composition of the Coordination Commission, the group of representatives from the IOC and the Olympic Movement who will be monitoring the Youth Olympic Games preparations and guiding the Singapore Organising Committee over the next two years.

Economic Freedom Index Shows Some Improvements
16 January 2008 -- The latest annual index of economic freedom ranks Hong Kong and Singapore on top for the 14th consecutive time. The Heritage Foundation survey shows economic freedom has improved slightly in the last year.
There is little change from the previous year, with four Asia Pacific economies and three from Europe placed in the top 10. The United States ranked fifth behind Australia and Ireland. Chile ranked eighth. » read more »
David Copperfield Sued by Promoters for $2.2 Million
12 November 2007, Washington (By Ray McDonald) -- Promoters are suing David Copperfield for nearly $2.2 million, after the illusionist pulled out of 48 shows in the face of rape claims. Filed November 6 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the breach of contract suit names Copperfield, his company and one of his attorneys, Albert Rettig. Singapore, India Have Highest Growth Rate in Number of Millionaires
02 July 2007 -- Several Asian countries saw the fastest growth in the number of millionaires worldwide last year. And in China, the government plans to raise the minimum wage.
The number of Asians with assets of more than $1 million increased 8.6 percent in 2006, compared with a year earlier. Investment bank Merrill Lynch's annual wealth report, released jointly with financial services provider Capgemini, says their combined wealth increased 10.5 percent to more than $8 trillion. » read more »
