San Francisco Giants Set 2008 MLB Opening Day Roster

SAN FRANCISCO, 03/30/2008 -- The San Francisco Giants made a number of roster moves prior to today's exhibition contest against the Oakland Athletics to set the Opening Day roster for their 126th National League campaign, club Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean announced today.

The San Francisco Giants made the following transactions to reach their final 25-man roster:

• Optioned catcher Eliezer Alfonzo to triple-A Fresno following yesterday's contest.
• Designated left-handed pitcher Steve Kline for assignment.
• Reassigned right-handed pitcher Bartolome Fortunato and infielder Justin Leone to minor league camp.
• Placed right-handed pitcher Vinnie Chulk on the 15-day Disabled List, retroactive to March 21, with a right shoulder strain.    » read more »

San Francisco Giants Unveil Plans for 2008 MLB Season

03/26/2008 -- During its annual Media Open House today, the San Francisco Giants announced plans for the 2008 50th Anniversary season with a preview of the ballpark's new group suites and enhanced View Level amenities.

The San Francisco Giants also announced that for the first time ever, it will open the ballpark for fans to watch the season opener on the scoreboard on March 31. The Giants and FSN Bay Area will open the ballpark and invite fans to come out and watch the season opener of the San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers from Los Angeles on the scoreboard to celebrate the season opener and the re-launch of the network as Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.    » read more »

San Francisco Giants Announce New Head Groundskeeper for AT&T Park

03/24/2008 -- The San Francisco Giants have named Greg Elliott as their new head groundskeeper at AT&T Park. Greg Elliott hails as the four-time South Atlantic League Groundskeeper of the Year for his maintenance of Classic Park, home of the Lake County Captains in Eastlake, Ohio.

Greg Elliott has more than a decade of experience in field maintenance and management. In addition to his service at Classic Park, he has served as turf manager for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, stadium operations manager for the Toledo Mud Hens and assistant groundskeeper for the Indianapolis Indians. He has also spent time working with USA Baseball and the Arizona Fall League in both Tucson and Phoenix. He is a graduate of the Sports and Commercial Turfgrass Management Program at Michigan State University.    » read more »

02/12/2008, SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Giants have added Ray Callari, Brad Cameron, Lou Colletti, Chuck Hensley and Hugh Walker to their scouting staff, club special assistant to the general manager John Barr announced today.

Callari, who served as an area scout for the Cincinnati Reds from 2003-06, will be a scout in Canada. The former Montreal Expos farmhand also serves as the infield coach/recruiting coordinator for The Academy of Baseball of Canada.    » read more »
