SENIOR ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL: There were a couple things going on tonight, actually. There was a leaders' meeting over dinner, and then a subsequent discussion. There was a meeting over dinner of foreign ministers. There was also a separate meeting of defense ministers. And in some sense, they were talking about the same core subjects, taking a little bit of different take on them in some ways. Heat Wave, Wildfires, Continue Ravaging Greece, Romania

28 June 2007 -- Authorities in Greece say the longest heat wave ever recorded in the country has killed at least 10 people in the past week, including two firefighters trapped early Thursday north of Athens.

Two other men escaped the inferno that continued to lay waste to heavily-forested areas in the center of the country. Authorities told Reuters that firefighters already hampered by strong northerly winds also are encountering exploding World War II ordnance in forests north of the capital.    » read more »

Air Force Gains Larger Presence In Romania

5/9/2007 - RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany (AFNEWS) -- The Romanian parliament passed legislation the first week of May that now authorizes the U.S. military to use several of its bases.

The announcement came just as the Air Force was wrapping up a 10-day exercise, called Sniper Lance 2007, in the former Eastern Bloc country.

This was the second exercise in the past nine months the Air Force held in Romania.    » read more »
