TEWKSBURY, Mass., June 9, 2009 -- The Office of Naval Research (ONR) has awarded Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) a 12-month contract to develop the preliminary design of a 100 kilowatt experimental Free Electron Laser for the U.S. Navy. This preliminary design is the first of a three-phase ONR Innovative Naval Prototype program worth more than $150 million.

"Free Electron Lasers use superconducting electron accelerators to produce high-power laser beams," said Michael Del Checcolo, vice president of Engineering for Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems. TEWKSBURY, Mass., June 8, 2009 -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) was awarded a $217 million U.S. Navy contract for two Volume Search Radar (VSR) arrays for the Zumwalt-class destroyer program and the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78).

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla., June 5, 2009 -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) completed a series of hardware-in-the-loop laboratory tests on the GBU-53/B Small Diameter Bomb II's datalink, a crucial step to clearing the datalink for flight tests later this month.

During the tests, engineers verified the Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL) datalink worked as anticipated in a variety of demanding circumstances. Because of the GBU-53/B's datalink's performance, engineers will now conduct UHF and Link 16-mode testing of the datalink from a UH-1 helicopter.    » read more »

MARLBOROUGH, Mass., June 1, 2009 -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) demonstrated the ability to communicate in real time with a submerged submarine at classified speeds and depths.

This capability, which addresses one of the most significant shortfalls in submarine communications, was exhibited for the United Kingdom's Royal Navy during an at-sea trial of Raytheon's Deep Siren Tactical Paging (DSTP) system.

The U.K. Ministry of Defence reported that Deep Siren demonstrated "the first step toward a transformational capability that will change the way we operate submarines in the future."

The evaluation, which took place during the U.K. Royal Navy's TAURUS 09 deployment, follows U.S. Navy testing conducted in 2008 that culminated with a successful military utility assessment.    » read more »

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla., May 29, 2009 -- Raytheon Company's (NYSE: RTN) newest variant of the Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile continued to demonstrate its advanced warfighting capabilities when it completed its seventh test flight.

During the March 19 test, the AIM-120D AMRAAM was fired from a U.S. Air Force F-15D fighter aircraft. Initial analysis shows the missile achieved all primary test objectives.

GOLETA, Calif., May 27, 2009 -- An $84 million contract allows Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) to continue production of its ALR-67(V)3 digital radar warning receiver for the U.S. Navy as well as several international customers.

The contract for a base year and three option years of production covers systems for the Navy and the air forces of Canada, Switzerland and Australia. EL SEGUNDO, Calif., May 26, 2009 -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has been awarded a $54 million U.S. Navy contract to retrofit Super Hornet block II aircraft with APG-79 active electronically scanned array radars.

The award by the Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md., calls for APG-79 AESA radars to be retrofitted into lots 26 to 29 of the F/A-18E/F aircraft. FORT MONMOUTH, N.J., May 26, 2009 -- A team led by Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) received an indefinite delivery-indefinite quantity award for the U.S. Army Battle Command Development contract.

The Battle Command Development contract, managed by the U.S. Army Communications and Electronics Command, is a five-year, multi-award vehicle worth up to $777.4 million.

The award enables the Raytheon team to compete for task orders that will enhance and maintain the capabilities of the Army Battle Command System. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 19, 2009 -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) is being awarded a $259.9 million U.S. Navy contract to overhaul and upgrade 57 Phalanx Close-In Weapon Systems and to provide ancillary equipment, spares, as well as additional technical support.

The agreement calls for 40 sea-based Phalanx systems and 17 Centurion Land-Based Phalanx Weapon Systems.
