Mayo Clinic Study Reveals Rural, Unmarried Women at Higher Risk for Depression

Economy heightens need to monitor mental health

June, 2008 -- ROCHESTER, Minn. — Mayo Clinic research suggests unmarried women living in rural areas have lower self-rated health status than their married counterparts. This lower health status often includes greater instances of self-assessed feelings of depression. The results of the study were recently published in the Journal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice. Hawaii Governor's Administration Calls For Legislature To Restore Anti-Poverty Funding

June 1, 2008 -- HONOLULU – Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle’s Chief of Staff Barry Fukunaga today called on the State Legislature to reverse its misguided decision to restrict the spending of $28.2 million in federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds for the upcoming fiscal year.

May 27, 2008 -- Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell today vetoed a bill that would have raised the state’s minimum wage from $7.65 to $8 beginning Jan. 1, 2009, and to $8.25 beginning Jan. 1, 2010.
