Sen. Mikulski: $53 Million for the Port of Baltimore in Senate Appropriations Bill

16-Oct-2009 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced Senate passage of the fiscal year 2010 Energy and Water Development Conference Report. The bill includes funding for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects in Maryland, including more than $53 million for the Port of Baltimore. DHS Sec. Napolitano: $88 Million in Recovery Act Funding for Inspection Technology at Ports

October 14, 2009 -- Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano today announced $88 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding for Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) equipment—enhancing border security by expanding U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) capabilities to scan commercial traffic for contraband through X-ray and other imaging technologies.

"These cutting-edge technologies will help us better detect threats at our nation's borders while expediting legitimate travel and trade," said Secretary Napolitano. June 19, 2009 -- WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) today introduced a bill to reduce congestion on the nation’s roads by encouraging more freight to be carried by barges and ships. Georgia Governor Perdue Announces Increased Cargo Capacity at Port of Savannah

January 22, 2009 -- SAVANNAH — Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the opening of the Chatham Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF) at the Georgia Ports Authority’s Garden City Terminal. The new facility features three working tracks at 2,145 ft. each and a total of 12,406 ft. of storage tracks. The Port of Savannah is the only single facility on the U.S. East Coast with two on-terminal ICTFs. Today, Governor Perdue drove the ceremonial last spike into the Chatham ICTF rail.

“A thriving business climate requires a transportation network that can support commerce and act as a catalyst to propel our economy forward,” said Governor Perdue. “The completion of the Chatham ICTF will help achieve this goal.”    » read more »

EPA Takes Innovative Approach to Clear the Air at the Nation's Ports
