Pennsylvania Governor Rendell Announces $8.6 Million Federal Grant To Enhance Port Security In PA

May 11, 2007 -- HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell today said Pennsylvania’s ports in Erie, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh will be more secure now that the state and private entities that operate them are receiving $8.6 million worth of grants. Alabama Port Awarded $3.27 Million Security Grant

May 10, 2007 -- MONTGOMERY – Alabama Governor Bob Riley on Thursday announced the Alabama Port Authority is being awarded a $3.27 million grant to improve security with a closed circuit television system at the port’s rail facility.

“This is a major grant that strengthens the security of Alabama’s port, which is a critical component of our economy and our efforts to recruit new industry,” said Governor Riley. “The port is a vital asset for the entire state, so these funds are well spent.”    » read more »

Radiation Detection Testing Underway at Two Foreign Sea Ports

April 11, 2007 -- The departments of Homeland Security (DHS) and Energy (DOE) announced today that operational testing is underway in Honduras and Pakistan to strengthen global supply chain security by scanning shipping containers for nuclear or radiological materials before they are allowed to depart for the United States. The tests represent the initial phase of the Secure Freight Initiative announced Dec. 7, 2006, which involves the deployment of nuclear detection devices to six foreign ports.    » read more »
