• Chase Utley has been given clearance to increase his workout routine, including swinging the bat. Utley received clearance after visiting Dr. Randall Culp today.
How much swinging will depend upon the tolerance level, both comfort and strength of his right hand. In addition, he can increase his throwing program without wearing a splint.

Philadelphia Phillies Sign Two More Draft Picks
08/15/2007 -- Righthander Julian Sampson and outfielder Cedric Johnson, the Philadelphia Phillies' 12th and 19th round selections, respectively, in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft were signed by the club today, Marti Wolever, Director of Scouting, announced.
"We are very pleased to come to an agreement with Julian, who we think has the potential to be a middle-of-the-rotation starter in the big leagues," said Wolever. "He has athleticism, aptitude and a plus fastball with a chance to have a plus breaking ball in the future." » read more »

Washington Nationals Reinstate Right-Hander Shawn Hill from 15-Day Disabled List
08/14/2007 -- The Washington Nationals today reinstated right-handed pitcher Shawn Hill from the 15-day disabled list. Vice President/General Manager Jim Bowden made the announcement.
Shawn Hill will start tonight's Washington Nationals series opener vs. Philadelphia Phillies at RFK Stadium.
The 26-year-old was placed on the 15-day DL May 14, retroactive to May 12, with a strained left shoulder. He went 3-3 with a 2.70 ERA in eight starts before the injury.
Shawn Hill is 5-8 with a 4.70 ERA in 17 career starts.

08/12/2007 -- The Philadelphia Phillies Senior RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) team, comprised of 16 to 18-year-old boys, won the championship game in the MLB RBI World Series, held earlier today at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.
The Phillies defeated last year's winner, Los Angeles, on a two-run home run in the fifth inning by Anthony Cafagna, who lives in Philadelphia and is a student at the University of Richmond. The final score was 2-1. » read more »
Philadelphia Phillies Acquire Russell Branyan from Cleveland Indians
08/09/2007 -- Infielder/outfielder Russell Branyan was acquired by the Philadelphia Phillies from the Cleveland Indians for cash considerations, Senior Vice President & General Manager Pat Gillick announced today.
Branyan, 31, began the season with San Diego and hit .197 with seven home runs and 19 RBI in 61 games before being released on July 28. He was signed by Cleveland on August 7 and assigned to triple-A Buffalo, where he appeared in one game. » read more »
