Larry Rojas to Receive Philadelphia Phillies Latino Legend Award

09/04/2007 -- He never set foot in the major leagues but he is a legend when it comes to player development and the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

Larry Rojas, who has been in pro ball since 1961 and with the Phillies since 1970, is the 2007 Phillies Latino Legend Award winner. Rojas will be honored pre-game on Friday night (September 7) as part of the Goya Latino Family Celebration.

A second and third baseman, Rojas was a three-time All-Star during his 11-year minor league playing career with the Detroit Tigers, California Angels and Phillies.    » read more »

03 September 2007 (VOA Sports) -- Slugger Hank Blalock hit a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning to lead the Texas Rangers to an 8-7 win Sunday over the Los Angeles Angels in a key Major League Baseball contest.

Philadelphia Phillies' Mike Zagurski To Have Surgery

08/24/2007 -- Left-hander Mike Zagurski will have season-ending surgery on his right hamstring, the Philadelphia Phillies announced tonight. The surgery will take place on Monday in Pittsburgh, Pa., and will be performed by Dr. Jim Bradley, the Pittsburgh Steelers' Team Physician.

Mike Zagurski, 24, made his final appearance of the season on August 18 against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. He injured his hamstring trying to field an infield single off the bat of Ronny Paulino. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list the next day with an avulsion of the right hamstring.    » read more »

08/22/2007 -- Lefthander Cole Hamels was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a mild left elbow strain and outfielder Shane Victorino was activated from the DL, the Philadelphia Phillies announced today.

Cole Hamels, who was scheduled to start tonight's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park, underwent an MRI earlier today which showed no structural or ligament damage. His DL stint is backdated to August 17, making him eligible to return on September 1.    » read more »
