01 October 2007 -- The Philadelphia Phillies have qualified for Major League Baseball playoffs for the first time since 1993, winning their final game of the regular season over the visiting Washington Nationals, 6-1.

The New York Mets could have tied Philadelphia for the National League East Division and forced a one-game playoff, but they lost at home to the Florida Marlins, 8-1. Ticket windows at Citizens Bank Park opened at 9 a.m. this morning and within 45 minutes, all remaining tickets were sold for the 7 p.m. game tonight, 3:55 p.m. game tomorrow and Fan Appreciation Day on Sunday, 1:35 p.m. start. 09/24/2007 -- Outfielder T.J. Bohn was claimed by the Philadelphia Phillies this afternoon off waivers from the Atlanta Braves, Assistant General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.

Originally selected by Seattle in the 30th round of the 2002 draft, Bohn has appeared in 18 major league games, all with the Mariners in 2006. In limited play, he hit .143 (2-14) with one home run and two RBI.    » read more »

23 September 2007 -- The Boston Red Sox became the first major league baseball team to clinch a playoff spot, scoring three runs in the ninth inning Saturday to beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 8-6.

Boston Red Sox trailed 6-5 when Jason Varitek led off the ninth with a home run, followed an out later by Julio Lugo's two-run homer.

The New York Yankees trail Boston for the lead in the American League East division, but moved close to clinching at least a wild-card playoff spot with a 10-inning, 12-11 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.    » read more »

Philadelphia Phillies Pitcher Scott Mathieson to Undergo Surgery

09/22/2007 -- Righthander Scott Mathieson will undergo surgery on his right arm this Monday, the Philadelphia Phillies announced tonight.

Scott Mathieson, 23, will have an ulnar nerve transposition performed by Philadelphia Phillies team physician Dr. Michael Ciccotti. He is expected to be ready by spring training in February. Scott Mathieson missed the majority of the 2007 season after undergoing ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow last September. He appeared in seven minor league rehabilitation games in August.    » read more »
