The Time to Assess Animal Preparedness Plans is BEFORE Disaster Strikes

September 17, 2009 -- SEATTLE, Wash. -- September is National Preparedness Month, and this year the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is using the calendar observance to focus on changing perceptions about emergency preparedness, and helping Americans understand what it truly means to be Ready.

Being Ready is all about taking four simple but all-important steps: get an Emergency Supply Kit; make a Family Emergency Plan; be informed about emergencies and their appropriate responses; and get involved in community preparedness initiatives. Senate Approves Durbin Amendment Requiring More Stringent Safety Standards For Imported Puppies

December 14, 2007 -- [WASHINGTON, D.C.] – United States Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that legislation he offered to require all dogs imported to the U.S. for resale be properly vaccinated and in good health was included in the 2007 Farm Bill passed by the full Senate this afternoon.

Buyers and veterinarians report that imported puppies suffer from higher than normal incidences of pneumonia, parvovirus, rabies, ringworm and severe congenital defects.    » read more »

The Cincinnati Reds and Iams will welcome fans and their dogs at Wednesday's 7:10 p.m. game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Great American Ball Park.

California Attorney General Brown Distributes $4 Million for Animals of Katrina-Ravaged Area

August 18, 2007 -- SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced that Noah’s Wish, a nonprofit organization founded to help animals harmed by natural disaster, has transferred $4 million in charitable assets to the Department of Justice, to be used for the benefit of the animal victims of Hurricane Katrina. Pennsylvania Governor Rendell Hails Dog Law Decision

August 15, 2007 - HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell praised a decision today by the attorney general’s office to allow the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement to make sure Pennsylvania’s dog law and related regulations are followed.

The attorney general granted authority today to Department of Agriculture attorneys to represent dog wardens who are prosecuting summary violations of the law before district judges. Before the decision, violations of the law were handled in court by dog wardens.    » read more »
