April 21, 2008 -- OAKLAND –The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) today filed an anti-Strategic Lawsuit to Prevent Public Participation motion against the California Nurses Association (CNA) to prevent the union from further efforts to silence critics of its divisive tactics. The motion cites a temporary restraining order against SEIU President Andy Stern and SEIU that the CNA obtained as a publicity stunt last week as the latest effort by the CNA to suppress nurses and hospital workers who have criticized its anti-union tactics in Ohio and other states.    » read more »

Senator Feingold Supports More Funding For Nurses

April 7, 2008 -- Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Russ Feingold is working to support our nation’s nurses by calling for an increase in funding for Nursing Workforce Development (NWD) programs to help with the tremendous staffing and faculty shortages in the nursing workforce. In a bipartisan letter to Senate appropriators, Feingold is requesting $200 million for the NWD programs after the administration proposed a $46.2 million budget cut for an already stressed workforce.

NWD programs are the primary source of federal funding for nursing education. These programs are vital to ensuring registered nurses are ready to practice in rural, urban, and underserved communities.    » read more »

TALLAHASSEE, FL, July 27, 2007 - Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum today announced that a Jackson County nurse was arrested and charged with multiple criminal charges, including criminal neglect of an elderly or disabled adult and obtaining a controlled substance by deception. Authorities with the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office arrested Mitchell Harrison Nobles, 28, a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who was formerly employed by a nursing facility in Marianna.    » read more »
