New York Yankees to Play Final Home Opener in Current Yankee Stadium

03/27/2008 -- The New York Yankees will open the 2008 Championship Season-the 106th in franchise history and the 84th and final season at the current Yankee Stadium-on Monday, March 31 vs. the Toronto Blue Jays at 1:05 p.m.

Originally constructed prior to the 1923 season, Yankee Stadium was remodeled in 1974 and 1975. The club will move into a new state-of-the-art Yankee Stadium across the street from the current Stadium in 2009.

Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson will throw out the game's ceremonial first pitch in a season that marks the 30th anniversary of the Yankees' 1978 World Championship campaign. Public address announcer Bob Sheppard will not attend the game as he continues to recuperate from illness. His longtime backup, Jim Hall, will serve in his place.    » read more »

New York Yankees to Wear Commemorative Yankee Stadium Final Season Patch in 2008

03/25/2008 -- The New York Yankees announced today that the team will wear a special patch on their 2008 uniforms commemorating the final season of Yankee Stadium. In addition, the team will also don a patch in honor of the 2008 All-Star Game that will take place at Yankee Stadium on July 15, 2008. It is the first time the club's uniforms will be adorned with a patch for a full season since 2003, when the New York Yankees wore a patch commemorating the 100th anniversary of the franchise.

The "Yankee Stadium-The Final Season" patch will feature the main entrance of the original Stadium as it was prior to renovation in 1976. A "1923-2008" notation along the top of the patch recognizes the lifetime of the Stadium since its original Opening Day on April 18, 1923.    » read more »

New York Yankees Reach 3.8 Million Baseball Tickets Sold for the 2008 Season

Marks record pace in final season at current Yankee Stadium

03/24/2008 -- The New York Yankees announced today they have exceeded 3.8 million tickets sold for the 2008 season, marking the earliest the club has ever reached that level. With one week until Opening Day, the current tally is 400,000 tickets ahead of the Yankees' total on the same date last year.

"The New York Yankees are not in discussions to buy the current Yankee Stadium from the City of New York.

We have been in talks with city officials to determine the best way for the City to realize value in the assets of the current Yankee Stadium. The goal is to find the best and most efficient way to make memorabilia items available to the public and our fans.

There is no agreement as of yet as to the best method of making these items available but our discussions with the City are continuing. When there is an agreement we will let everyone know."

"We received great news this morning. The biopsy revealed scar tissue. It showed no signs of cancer. We are very excited about this news. It's what we had hoped for all along. We are checking out today (from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston) and are flying back to Oklahoma. I plan on resting at home over the next few weeks and focusing my energy on returning to the Stadium for its final Opening Day. My family and I thank everyone for their prayers, e-mails, cards and thoughts."
