The New York Yankees' loss dropped them to seven-and-a-half games behind Boston Red Sox for the American League East division lead, as the Boston Red Sox crushed the Chicago White Sox, 11-1. 08/20/2007 -- The New York Mets today acquired first baseman/outfielder Jeff Conine from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for minor leaguer infielder Jose Castro and minor league outfielder Sean Henry.

Jeff Conine, 41, hit .265 (57-215) with 23 runs scored, 11 doubles, one triple, six home runs, 32 RBI, 20 walks, 28 strikeouts and four stolen bases in 80 games this year with the Reds. He has made 50 starts at first base and one start as the designated hitter in 2007. Conine has appeared in 991 career games at first base, 929 games in the outfield and 68 games at third base.    » read more »

MLB: Glavine Posts 300th Win

06 August 2007 -- New York Mets pitcher Tom Glavine has won his 300th game - the 23rd pitcher in Major League Baseball history to reach that milestone.

The 41-year-old Glavine left the game against the Cubs in Chicago late Sunday in the seventh inning with a five-run lead, and with the appreciative applause of Cubs fans. The Mets went on to win, 8-3.

Glavine - in his 21st major league season - becomes just the fifth left-handed pitcher to win 300 games.    » read more »
