New York Mets Donate Cookbook Proceeds to Charity
01/28/2008, FLUSHING -- The New York Mets today announced a donation in the sum of $60,000 to area hunger related charities from the sale of the GourMets Cookbook sponsored by Stop & Shop. The New York Mets and Stop & Shop distributed the proceeds from the book equally between the Food Bank For New York and Island Harvest. Mets General Manager Omar Minaya and Faith Weiner, Senior Director, Public Affairs, Stop & Shop made the presentation at the Food Bank For New York City center in the Bronx.

Tom Nieto Named New York Mets First Base Coach
01/14/2008 -- Tom Nieto, the New York Mets catching instructor the last three years, will be the team's first base coach this season.
"Tom is a knowledgeable baseball man and I know he will do a great job for us," said manager Willie Randolph. "He has experience on the bases and we will have the added bonus of having him the dugout between innings so he can interact with the players more, especially our catchers Brian Schneider and Ramon Castro."

New York Mets Select Pitcher Steven Register in Rule 5 Draft
12/06/2007 -- The New York Mets today selected righthanded pitcher Steven Register from the Colorado Rockies' Tulsa affiliate in Major League Baseball's Rule 5 draft.
Register, 24, was 1-3 with 37 saves with a 4.03 ERA in 61 games last year for Tulsa (AA) of the Texas League. In 58.0 innings, he allowed 63 hits, 27 runs, 26 earned, with 16 walks and 48 strikeouts.
The 6-1, 170-pounder was originally drafted by the Rockies in the third round in 2004 from Auburn University where he saved the sixth-most games in SEC history (25). » read more »

10/31/2007 -- The New York Mets today announced they have picked up the club's $7.5 million option on outfielder Moises Alou for 2008. In addition, the Mets re-signed free agent infielder Damion Easley to a one-year, $950,000 contract.

10/18/2007, FLUSHING, N.Y. -- Billy Berroa, New York Mets Spanish Broadcaster on Radio WADO 1280 AM, passed away yesterday in his native country of the Dominican Republic following a long illness. He was 79.

23 September 2007 -- The Boston Red Sox became the first major league baseball team to clinch a playoff spot, scoring three runs in the ninth inning Saturday to beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 8-6.
Boston Red Sox trailed 6-5 when Jason Varitek led off the ninth with a home run, followed an out later by Julio Lugo's two-run homer.

Marques James Seme of Flushing, Queens will take the mound at 7:00 p.m.

09/19/2007, ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Mark Mulder underwent additional testing of his left shoulder including an MRI scan. The MRI revealed complete healing of the labrum but only partial healing of the rotator cuff.
After consultation with the original treating physician, Dr. David Altchek of the New York Mets, and evaluation by St. Louis Cardinals' team physician Dr. George Paletta, a consensus recommendation was made for arthroscopy of the shoulder with probable rotator cuff debridement. » read more »

09/18/2007 -- Marlon Anderson of the New York Mets has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount for his inappropriate actions during the bottom of the ninth inning of Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Shea Stadium. Bob Watson, Vice President of On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.
Unless appealed, Marlon Anderson's suspension is scheduled to begin tonight, when the New York Mets play at Washington. If appealed, the suspension will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
