American Auto Logistics, LP, of Park Ridge, N.J., is being awarded a $207,382,618 firm, fixed-price modification for an earned award term under a previously awarded contract (DAMTOI-03-D-0184) to provide continuing services for the transportation and storage of privately owned vehicles. Work will be performed at worldwide locations and is expected to be completed Oct. 31, 2010. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), Directorate of Acquisition, Scott Air Force Base, Ill., is the contracting activity.

NRL Sensor Provides Critical Space Weather Observations

11/3/2009 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. (NNS) -- The Navy Research Laboratory's Special Sensor Ultraviolet Limb Imager (SSULI)was launched Oct. 18, 2009, offering a first of its kind technique for remote sensing of the ionosphere and thermosphere from space.

The SSULI was developed by NRL's Space Science Division and Spacecraft Engineering Department
and launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., aboard an United Launch Alliance Atlas V launch vehicle.    » read more »

Raytheon Completes Free Flight of Joint Standoff Weapon Extended Range

Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division Sea Test Range, Calif., Nov. 2, 2009 -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) and the U.S. Navy completed the first free-flight demonstration of the Joint Standoff Weapon Extended Range air-to-surface precision guided missile.

The JSOW-ER is a powered variant of the combat-proven glide JSOW. It takes the GPS-inertial navigation system reliability of existing JSOW variants and combines it with the network-enabled maritime-interdiction capabilities currently in development for the JSOW C-1. The JSOW-ER also integrates the Hamilton-Sundstrand TJ-150 engine, currently in production for Raytheon's Miniature Air Launched Decoy.    » read more »

Naval Research Lab Looks to Sea, Sun for Energy Solutions

10/16/2009 -- WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The services could more effectively power unmanned vehicles, underwater monitoring sensors, ships and aircraft if Naval Research Laboratory scientists achieve their goals of harnessing solar and sea power to fuel the military for years to come, a top NRL scientist said.

"A worldwide peak of fuel production is expected in five to 15 years, and increased demand will likely create large swings in price and availability," Barry Spargo, head of NRL's chemical dynamics and diagnostics branch, said in an Oct. 14 interview on Pentagon Web Radio's audio webcast "Armed with Science: Research and Applications for the Modern Military."    » read more »

GE Qualifies and Delivers Boeing P-8A Poseidon Systems

15 June 2009 -- LE BOURGET, France -- GE Aviation recently achieved two significant P-8A milestones including flight management system hardware qualification and deliveries of stores management system hardware. The flight management system qualification is the final milestone prior to formal flight testing of the P-8A, due to take place later this year. Boeing: 1st Block II Super Hornet Flight Trainers Delivered to US Navy

ST. LOUIS, June 9, 2009 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] and teammate L-3 have delivered four Block II F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Tactical Operation Flight Trainers (TOFT) to the U.S. Navy and declared them “Ready for Training.” Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana, Va., has two of the trainers, and two are located at NAS Lemoore, Calif.

“These are the first Block II TOFTs, the new generation of trainers,” said Steven Dent, F/A-18 Training Systems manager for Boeing. “The Boeing/L-3 team is able to offer a high level of aircraft concurrency with these new devices.”    » read more »

Raytheon Awarded $217 Million Navy Contract for Volume Search Radar for Zumwalt and CVN 78

TEWKSBURY, Mass., June 8, 2009 -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) was awarded a $217 million U.S. Navy contract for two Volume Search Radar (VSR) arrays for the Zumwalt-class destroyer program and the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78).

Boeing Responds to A-12 Aircraft Appeals Court Decision

Chicago, June 2, 2009 -- J. Michael Luttig, executive vice president and general counsel of The Boeing Company [NYSE:BA], today directed that an immediate appeal be made following a U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit decision upholding the government’s position in the long-running A-12 case.

“Today's decision, which awards no amount of damages to either the contractors or the government, is but the next step in this regrettable litigation that is now in its eighteenth year. The decision is fatally flawed under what has been the law governing this case from the outset. It creates out of whole cloth a new law that essentially requires the case to be tried anew from the beginning,” Luttig said.    » read more »

USAF-Navy-Raytheon AIM-120D AMRAAM Completes 7th Test Flight

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla., May 29, 2009 -- Raytheon Company's (NYSE: RTN) newest variant of the Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile continued to demonstrate its advanced warfighting capabilities when it completed its seventh test flight.

During the March 19 test, the AIM-120D AMRAAM was fired from a U.S. Air Force F-15D fighter aircraft. Initial analysis shows the missile achieved all primary test objectives.

"The hard work of the U.S. government-Raytheon team to deliver a world-class missile continues to pay off," said Col. Michael Andersen, commander of the U.S. Air Force's 328th Armament Systems Group. Raytheon Garners US Navy Contract to Continue Producing Radar Warning Receivers

GOLETA, Calif., May 27, 2009 -- An $84 million contract allows Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) to continue production of its ALR-67(V)3 digital radar warning receiver for the U.S. Navy as well as several international customers.

The contract for a base year and three option years of production covers systems for the Navy and the air forces of Canada, Switzerland and Australia. The ALR-67(V)3, a state-of-the-art radar warning receiver on Navy F/A-18E/F carrier-based tactical aircraft, is an integral part of modernization programs for international air force F/A-18 customers.    » read more »

Raytheon to Retrofit US Navy Super Hornets With AESA Radars

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., May 26, 2009 -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has been awarded a $54 million U.S. Navy contract to retrofit Super Hornet block II aircraft with APG-79 active electronically scanned array radars.

The award by the Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md., calls for APG-79 AESA radars to be retrofitted into lots 26 to 29 of the F/A-18E/F aircraft. The units will replace the APG-73 radars currently installed in the aircraft, ensuring that pilots and aircrews are equipped with the most advanced technology available.    » read more »

Raytheon Signs $259.9 Million Phalanx Close-In Weapon System Contract With U.S. Navy

LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 19, 2009 -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) is being awarded a $259.9 million U.S. Navy contract to overhaul and upgrade 57 Phalanx Close-In Weapon Systems and to provide ancillary equipment, spares, as well as additional technical support.

The agreement calls for 40 sea-based Phalanx systems and 17 Centurion Land-Based Phalanx Weapon Systems.

"The capability of our world-class Ku-band radar coupled with Phalanx's thermal imager provides unparalleled self-defense protection," said Todd Callahan, Raytheon's Close-In Defense Solutions program director. Boeing P-8A Poseidon Completes 1st Flight

SEATTLE, April 27, 2009 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] P-8A Poseidon test aircraft T-1 successfully completed its first flight April 25, taking off from Renton Field at 10:43 a.m. and touching down at Boeing Field in Seattle at 2:14 p.m. The P-8A performed a series of flight checks, reached a maximum altitude of 25,000 feet, and landed after three hours, 31 minutes in the air.    » read more »
