DoD: Resources, Not Content, Drive Decision to Block YouTube, MySpace
WASHINGTON, May 18, 2007 – A directive blocking access to 13 popular Web sites from the Defense Department network was designed to guarantee bandwidth availability for mission-critical functions, a defense official said yesterday.
Operational security concerns “played absolutely no part in the decision” by U.S. Strategic Command to limit access to several recreational sites, including MySpace and YouTube, Navy Rear Adm. May 14, 2007 -- HARRISBURG - Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett today joined attorneys general from seven other states in demanding that MySpace immediately provide law enforcement with the names of convicted sex offenders that the company has identified on its popular social networking website.
Corbett said the attorneys general believe there are potentially thousands of registered sex offenders with profiles on MySpace, and that the company has a responsibility to keep these predators away from unsuspecting members of the MySpace community. » read more »
Connecticut Attorney General, Seven Other States Ask Myspace For Names Of Sex Offenders With MySpace Profiles
May 14, 2007 -- Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and seven other attorneys general wrote MySpace today saying they have received information that thousands of convicted sex offenders have profiles on the site and asking for their names and other information.
Blumenthal and the attorneys general noted MySpace announced in December 2006 that it had hired Sentinel Tech Holdings to check the site for registered sex offenders. Blumenthal said information received by his office indicates the search disclosed thousands of offenders with MySpace profiles. » read more »
