August 31, 2007 -- Granite City – Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Madison County State’s Attorney Bill Mudge announced today that they have filed charges against a Granite City sex offender resulting from the Attorney General’s investigation into registered sex offenders with MySpace profiles. Aug. 17, 2007 -- In late May 2007, Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison subpoenaed information about registered sex offenders in Kansas who were operating on Myspace.com. He issued a civil subpoena and received 331 records of offenders with pages on Myspace.

June 26, 2007 -- Jefferson City, Mo. — Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon today provided the Missouri State Highway Patrol with the names and other information of 98 additional convicted sex offenders identified as having pages on the popular social networking web site MySpace.com. Two weeks ago, Nixon provided the names of 178 such sex offenders to the Highway Patrol. Oklahoma Governor Henry Signs Bill to Keep Sex Predators off MySpace, Internet Chat Groups

May 31, 2007 -- Oklahoma City -- Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry signed a bill today aimed at keeping registered sex offenders from prowling MySpace and other online web sites where they might come into contact with children.

House Bill 1714 allows a judge to prohibit a registered sex offender from accessing a social networking web site in which he or she has the potential of contacting a minor. In addition, the measure gives courts the ability to require that a convicted sex offender register any email addresses and other Internet-related identification for communication.    » read more »

May 21, 2007 -- (Boise) – Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden announced today that MySpace has agreed to turn over the names and other information of convicted sex offenders from Idaho who have registered on the popular social networking Internet site.

“I believe it is critical to receive this information to assess any threats by sexual predators to Idaho’s children,” Attorney General Wasden said. “Once my office receives this information, and we have an opportunity to examine it, we may determine that it would be appropriately referred to law enforcement.”    » read more »
