August 31, 2007 -- Granite City – Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Madison County State’s Attorney Bill Mudge announced today that they have filed charges against a Granite City sex offender resulting from the Attorney General’s investigation into registered sex offenders with MySpace profiles. The charges were filed today in Madison County Circuit Court and stemmed from the subpoenas issued earlier this year by 31 attorneys general to MySpace, a popular social networking site.    » read more »

Aug. 17, 2007 -- In late May 2007, Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison subpoenaed information about registered sex offenders in Kansas who were operating on Myspace.com. He issued a civil subpoena and received 331 records of offenders with pages on Myspace.

August 13, 2007 -- Trenton, NJ – New Jersey Attorney General Anne Milgram today asked a dozen Internet social networking sites to determine whether convicted New Jersey sex offenders have created profiles on their websites, following reports that the popular networking site MySpace had identified 29,000 profiles on its site that had been created by convicted sex offenders.    » read more »

June 27, 2007 -- Yesterday, Maine Attorney General Steve Rowe filed an investigative demand with Fox Interactive Media, the parent company of the popular online social networking site Myspace.com. In December 2006 Myspace hired Sentinel Tech Holdings to develop a tool to check the site for registered sex offenders. June 26, 2007 -- Jefferson City, Mo. — Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon today provided the Missouri State Highway Patrol with the names and other information of 98 additional convicted sex offenders identified as having pages on the popular social networking web site MySpace.com. Two weeks ago, Nixon provided the names of 178 such sex offenders to the Highway Patrol. Nixon has asked the Highway Patrol to examine the data to look for parole violations by offenders who may be barred from using a computer or contacting minors.    » read more »

June 04, 2007 - Kentucky Attorney General Greg Stumbo today announced that his office has identified 22 Kentucky Sex Offenders who are MySpace.com users – this in addition to the 68 convicted sex offenders from Kentucky that MySpace identified and provided to the state on May 24th (link to release).

May 31, 2007 -- Oklahoma City -- Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry signed a bill today aimed at keeping registered sex offenders from prowling MySpace and other online web sites where they might come into contact with children.

House Bill 1714 allows a judge to prohibit a registered sex offender from accessing a social networking web site in which he or she has the potential of contacting a minor. In addition, the measure gives courts the ability to require that a convicted sex offender register any email addresses and other Internet-related identification for communication.    » read more »

May 21, 2007 -- (Boise) – Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden announced today that MySpace has agreed to turn over the names and other information of convicted sex offenders from Idaho who have registered on the popular social networking Internet site.

“I believe it is critical to receive this information to assess any threats by sexual predators to Idaho’s children,” Attorney General Wasden said. “Once my office receives this information, and we have an opportunity to examine it, we may determine that it would be appropriately referred to law enforcement.”    » read more »
