First Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Location outside Cleveland to Open in SoHo in November

August 13, 2008 -- New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Billy Joel, Clive Davis, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum CEO Terry Stewart and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation CEO Joel Peresman today announced that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will open an annex in New York City in the heart of SoHo.

When the 25,000 square foot annex opens in November, it will be the first location outside the Museum's home in Cleveland. NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta and Department of Cultural Affairs Commissioner Kate D. Levin joined the announcement, which took place at 76 Mercer Street, the future site of the annex.    » read more »

National Cryptologic Museum Exhibits Hobo Signs

05 February 2008 -- The National Cryptologic Museum opened a new exhibit entitled, “Looking for a Sign: Hobo Communication in the Depression.” In the world of cryptology, few know of the secret signs used by hobos during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The new, interactive, exhibit presents many of the various symbols used by the hobos to send messages to other itinerant workers who would pass through the same location at a later time. 12/08/2007 -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced that an agreement has been reached among California State Parks, the California State Railroad Museum Foundation and Thomas Enterprises regarding the Downtown Sacramento Railyard. Nevada Historical Society Seeks Docents for Special Collections

Free Docent Training Provided

Oct. 2007, Reno, Nevada -- The Nevada Historical Society is seeking new docents to volunteer in the collections program. A free training will be provided on October 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Collections docents are trained to assist the curators of manuscripts, photographs, artifacts, and the research librarian. These docents also staff the museum store, which provides revenue to the Historical Society and the Docent Council.    » read more »

Spain's Prince of Asturias Prize for Promoting Peace and Human Rights Goes to Yad Vashem

12 September 2007 -- Spain's Prince of Asturias Foundation has announced that this year's award for promoting peace and human rights will go to Israel's Yad Vashem holocaust museum and memorial.

The foundation cited Yad Vashem's determination to transmit to future generations the need for preserving human rights and respect for life, following the horrors of Nazism. It said the Jerusalem museum has become the most important repository of information, and an education center on one of the largest genocides in the history of mankind.    » read more »

Chief Logan State Park Museum to Celebrate Labor Day Weekend with Free Concerts on Sept. 1-2

August 2007 -- Celebrate the Labor Day weekend with the Museum in the Park at Chief Logan State Park. The celebration will include two outdoor concerts on Saturday, Sept. 1, from 4 - 10 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 2, from 1 - 6 p.m. The musical events, “Aunt Jennie’s Festival,” are free and open to the public.
