Barack Obama Picks Up Numerous New Superdelegates As Race Winds Down
June 3, 2008 -- The Barack Obama campaign has announced numerous new superdelegate endorsements over the past two days, including superdelegates from Washington, Connecticut, Virginia, Maine, and two from Michigan. According to the Obama campaign, Barack Obama is now 41.5 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.

5/7/2008 -- (HELENA) – Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer has ordered that the National flag and State flag be flown at half-staff beginning on Friday morning, May 9th until sundown Saturday, May 10th to honor the memory of U.S. Army Captain Andrew R. Pearson, killed while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom on April 30th, 2008.

DoD Identifies Two Army Casualties: Andrew. R. Pearson, 32, and Ronald J. Tucker, 21
May 02, 2008 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
They died April 30 in Baghdad, Iraq, from wounds suffered when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device.
They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
Killed were:
Cpt. Andrew. R. Pearson, 32, of Billings, Montana.
Spc. Ronald J. Tucker, 21, of Fountain, Colorado. » read more »

4/21/2008 -- Montana House Member Franke Wilmer today announced her endorsement of Hillary Clinton for President. Wilmer represents Montana House District 64, and is professor of political science and international relations at Montana State University. In 2005 she was appointed by Gov. Schweitzer to serve as chair of the Human Rights Commission.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases Increase in Montana
April 21, 2008 -- Newly-released data from the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) indicates the number of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in Montana has increased over the last three years.
According to 2007 state data, chlamydia was the most commonly reported STD in Montana. In 2007, 2,757 cases of chlamydia were reported in 2007, compared to 2,368 in 2005.
In addition, nearly 75 percent of all infections in 2007 were diagnosed in individuals 15 to 24 years of age.

April 15, 2008 -- (Washington, D.C.) – Montana’s U.S. Senators are reserving judgment on the impending merger between Delta and Northwest Airlines, saying they’ll oppose the deal without assurances Montana’s service and rates will be protected.

Hillary Clinton’s Plan to Promote Energy Security in Montana
4/6/2008 -- Hillary Clinton has proposed an aggressive plan to reduce our reliance on foreign oil, address global warming, and promote alternative energy. Setting ambitious targets, the plan will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent from 1990 levels by 2050, and cut foreign oil imports by two-thirds from 2030 projected levels, more than 10 million barrels per day.

Montana AG McGrath: Meth Follow-Up Report Shows Change in Teens' Behavior
March 31, 2008 -- HELENA - Montana Attorney General Mike McGrath released a report Monday that demonstrates the state continues to make progress against the use of methamphetamine.
Methamphetamine in Montana: A Follow-Up Report on Trends and Progress (PDF) was done in conjunction with the Montana Meth Project. Trends identified in the report are based on data that includes drug task force incident reports, law enforcement statistics, crime lab reports, hospital discharge and admission information, survey results and interviews with participating agencies. McGrath's office released a similar report in early 2007.
McGrath said statistics from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey conducted by the Office of Public Instruction were especially encouraging. » read more »
