Washington Nationals Retain Rights to Outfielder Garrett Guzman

03/23/2008 -- The Washington Nationals today retained the rights to outfielder Garrett Guzman by acquiring him from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Washington Nationals Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made the announcement.

Garrett Guzman, 24, is batting .222 (4-for-18) with a double, homer and two RBI in 12 Grapefruit League contests. He was the Washington Nationals' second selection (16th overall) in the 2007 Rule 5 Draft.

Harold Baines to Join Chicago White Sox Legends Cast in Bronze

Sculpture of Popular White Sox Player to be Unveiled in July 2008

03/23/2008, CHICAGO - A life-sized sculpture of franchise legend and longtime fan favorite Harold Baines will be unveiled by the Chicago White Sox prior to their game vs. Kansas City on Sunday, July 20 at U.S. Cellular Field.

Harold Baines becomes the seventh White Sox great immortalized in bronze at the ballpark. Sculptures of club founder Charles A. Comiskey and Cuban great Orestes "Minnie" Minoso were unveiled in 2004. Carlton Fisk's sculpture was installed in 2005, while the famous double-play duo of Luis Aparicio and Nellie Fox was honored with sculptures in 2006. Last season, a sculpture of White Sox pitching star Bill Pierce was unveiled on the concourse near centerfield.    » read more »

Boston Red Sox Set 2008 MLB Opening Day Roster

03/25/2008, TOKYO, JAPAN -- The Boston Red Sox today set their 2008 opening day roster with the following moves:

--Placed righthanded pitcher Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 19 with a lower back strain.

--Optioned catcher Dusty Brown to Triple-A Pawtucket of the International League.

--Purchased the contact of catcher Kevin Cash from Triple-A Pawtucket.

The three moves put the Red Sox' roster at 27 players, one under the allowable limit for the Ricoh Opening Series Japan 2008. Of that number, 25 players will be active for the two games in Japan versus the Oakland A's.

The two inactive players for this two-game series are righthanded pitchers Mike Timlin (cut on right ring finger), and Tim Wakefield (started Sunday's game versus Yomiuri).    » read more »

Colorado Rockies Transactions for March 17

03/17/2008, TUCSON -- The Colorado Rockies announced the following roster moves this afternoon: right-handed pitcher Juan Morillo was optioned to minor league spring training camp. Additionally, left-handed pitcher John Koronka, catcher Michael McKenry and outfielder Sean Barker were re-assigned to minor league camp.

Morillo, 24, appeared in one Cactus League game and allowed four runs in 0.1 inning.

Koronka, 27, went 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA (4 ip, 1 er) in three Cactus League games. The lefty struck out two and walked two.    » read more »
