Baltimore Orioles Release Jay Gibbons

03/30/2008 -- The Baltimore Orioles today announced that they have released OF JAY GIBBONS. Selected from the Toronto Blue Jays in the Rule 5 Draft on December 11, 2000, Jay Gibbons hit .260 with 121 home runs and 405 RBIs in 779 games over seven seasons for the Baltimore Orioles.

Jay Gibbons hit .230 with 6 home runs and 28 RBI in 84 games last season before undergoing surgery on his left shoulder on August 14 and missing the remainder of the year. It was the 4th time in seven seasons injuries prevented him from appearing in 100 games.    » read more »

Baltimore Orioles Place Six Players on 15-Day Disabled List

Tike Redman accepts assignment to Triple-A Norfolk

03/29/2008 -- The Baltimore Orioles today announced that they have placed six players on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21.

IF/OF Freddie Bynum was placed on the list due to right knee surgery, LHP Troy Patton due to left shoulder surgery, RHPs Danys Baez, Fernando Cabrera and Chris Ray due to right elbow surgery, and RHP Jim Hoey due to right shoulder inflammation.

All are eligible for reinstatement on April 5.

The Baltimore Orioles also announced today that OF Tike Redman has accepted his assignment to Triple-A Norfolk. Redman was outrighted yesterday.

Baltimore Orioles Place Pitcher Rocky Cherry on 15-Day Disabled List

03/28/2008 -- The Baltimore Orioles today announced that they have placed RHP Rocky Cherry on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, with a right shoulder strain.

Rocky Cherry has appeared in eight Spring Training games, pitching to a 0.90 ERA (10.0IP, 1ER) and striking out 10.

Rocky Cherry, 27, was acquired on Aug. 31, 2007 with INF Scott Moore from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for RHP Steve Trachsel. He was 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 12 games with the Chicago Cubs and pitched to a 7.71 ERA in 10 games with the Baltimore Orioles.

SEATTLE, 03/30/2008 -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Bill Bavasi announced today that the team has placed right-handed pitcher Anderson Garcia on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis (retroactive to March 21).

03/28/2008, ST. PETERSBURG -- The Tampa Bay Rays claimed left-handed hitting outfielder Nathan Haynes off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. To clear room on the 40-man roster, outfielder Rocco Baldelli was placed on the 60- day disabled list (Mitochondrial disorder). Los Angeles Angels Place Four Players on 15-Day Disabled List

ANAHEIM, 03/30/2008 -- The Los Angeles Angels Saturday placed right-handed pitchers John Lackey, Kelvim Escobar, Scot Shields and Chris Bootcheck on the 15-day disabled list. The DL assignments are all retroactive to March 21. This announcement was made by Los Angeles Angels General Manager Tony Reagins.

Lackey, 29, was placed on the disabled list due to a strained right triceps. This marks his first DL assignment of his career. Lackey made one Spring Training start, posting no record and a 5.40 ERA (1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO). He registered a 19-9 record with two complete game shutouts and an AL-best 3.01 ERA (224 IP - 75 ER) in 33 starts in 2007.    » read more »

Beginning at 9 a.m. fans can purchase Standing Room Only tickets to the April 7 Home Opener online at pirates.com or in person at the PNC Park Main Box Office Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Washington Nationals Place Elijah Dukes on DL

03/31/2008 -- Following tonight's game, the Washington Nationals placed outfielder Elijah Dukes on the 15-day disabled list (right hamstring), and recalled right-handed pitcher Chris Schroder from Triple-A Columbus. Nationals Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made the announcement.

Chris Schroder, 29, went 0-2 with a 4.09 ERA in 9 appearances during Spring Training. He struck out 13 batters in 11.0 innings. Last season, Chris Schroder went 2-3 with a 3.18 ERA in 37 games with the Nationals, and 2-2 with a 1.64 ERA in 26 outings with Columbus.
