Americans Are Getting Fatter, and Fatter, and Fatter...

27 August 2007 -- A new report says obesity rates are continuing to rise across the United States.

The report by the research group, Trust for America's Health, says obesity rates climbed in 31 states last year. No state showed a decline.

The state of Mississippi had the highest adult obesity rate for the third year in a row. The report said Mississippi is the first state to reach a rate of more than 30 percent.

The report also said Washington, DC, had the highest obesity rate (22.8 percent) for overweight children ages 10 to 17.    » read more »

Mississippi Airlift National Guard Wing Used In Utah Miner Rescue

JACKSON, Miss. (8/13/2007) – It was a routine day at the 172nd Airlift Wing in Jackson, Miss., until the phone rang around 1:50 pm. The call was an emergency airlift request to transport equipment to the stranded miners in Utah. Immediately, wing personnel organized an effort to get a C-17 Globemaster III in the air to get the needed equipment to the miners as quickly as possible.    » read more »

DoD Identifies Army Casualty: Sgt. Taurean T. Harris, 22, of Liberty, Mississippi

August 04, 2007 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Sgt. Taurean T. Harris, 22, of Liberty, Mississippi, died Aug. 2 in Kala Gush, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 202nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 513th Military Intelligence Brigade, Fort Gordon, Ga.

June 11, 2007 -- Jackson, Ms – Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood today filed, in the Circuit Court of Hinds County, a complaint against State Farm Fire and Casualty Company for bad faith breach of contract related to the settlement agreement the two parties entered into on January 23, 2007.

“We filed this lawsuit in an effort to help the more than 30,000 Gulf Coast policyholders who have suffered for nearly two years because of State Farm’s inaction,” said Attorney General Jim Hood.    » read more »
