Gratitude Is Good Medicine For Organ Recipients
August 14, 2007 -- After immunosuppressants, the best medicine for organ transplant patients might be gratitude.
In a study of organ recipients, researchers from UC Davis and the Mississippi University for Women found that patients who keep "gratitude journals" score better on measures of mental health, general health and vitality than those who keep only routine notes about their days.
"We found that increased feelings of gratitude can cause people's well-being and quality of life to improve," said Robert Emmons, a UC Davis professor who specializes in the study of gratitude. » read more »

Phase II Clinical Trial Results for ADENTRI Published in Journal of the American College of Cardiology

Group Therapy Does Not Extend Life of Cancer Patients
13 August 2007 -- A study has found that women with breast cancer who take part in group psychotherapy do not live longer than those who do not -- contrary to a much-publicized study from 18 years ago. But the author of the new study says support groups can still help breast cancer patients have a better quality of life.
Jan Kuba discovered she had breast cancer last year. She has undergone chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.
She says her cancer support group near Chicago, Illinois has helped her cope with her illness.
