Boston Red Sox Host Colorado Rockies in 2007 World Series Game One
23 October 2007, Washington (By Steve Schy) -- The 103rd edition of Major League Baseball's World Series gets underway Wednesday in Boston as the Red Sox host the Colorado Rockies in Game One at Fenway Park Tuesday evening. As VOA's Steve Schy reports, both teams are entering the Fall Classic on a hot streak.

Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski, who won Baseball's Triple Crown and the American League Most Valuable Award in 1967, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Game One of the 2007 World Series on Wednesday night at Fenway Park.
John Williams, reknowned American composer and conductor and five-time Academy Award winner will conduct America's orchestra, the Boston Pops, in the playing of the Star Spangled Banner prior to Game One. 10/23/2007 -- Ed Montague, a veteran of 32 years of Major League umpiring, will serve as the crew chief at the 2007 World Series and will call balls and strikes at Game One of the 2007 Fall Classic, it was announced today.
Montague's crew will include Laz Diaz (ninth year), Ted Barrett (11th year), Chuck Meriwether (16th year), Mike Everitt (ninth year) and regular season crew chief Mike Reilly (31st year). » read more »

10/21/2007 -- Major League Baseball issued the following statement in response to media reports regarding Cleveland Indians pitcher Paul Byrd:
"We will investigate the allegations concerning Paul Byrd as we have players implicated in previous similar reports. Since Mr. Byrd and his club, the Cleveland Indians, are currently active in post-season play, we will interview Mr. Byrd prior to the start of the World Series should the Cleveland club advance."
