Pennsylvania Governor Rendell Orders Flags At Half-Staff In Observance Of Peace Officers Memorial Day

May 11, 2007 -- HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Governor Rendell has ordered that all U.S. and Pennsylvania flags at state facilities throughout the commonwealth be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, May 15, in recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

“On this day, we pay tribute to the local, state, and federal law enforcement officers who bravely serve the public and play an essential role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of our citizens,” Governor Rendell said. “We honor them for their character, leadership and courage.”    » read more »

State of Ohio Reaches Contracts Agreement With Ohio State Troopers Association

5.11.07 - Columbus, Ohio – Late Thursday May 11, 2007, the State of Ohio reached an agreement to the terms of a new labor contract with the Ohio State Troopers Association.

The union represents approximately 1800 troopers, sergeants, dispatchers, and communication technicians of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The parties have been negotiating since December of 2006 and had engaged in intensive discussions following the state’s rejection of a fact finding report in April.    » read more »

Socialite Heiress Paris Hilton Sentenced to 45 Days in Jail For Driving Infractions

07 May 2007 -- Paris Hilton must serve 45 days in jail for violating her probation by driving without a valid license.

Handing down the decision May 4, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer ruled the 26-year-old celebrity heiress must turn herself in by June 5.

A visibly shocked and tearful Hilton called the decision "cruel and unwarranted." She subsequently fired her spokesman, veteran publicist Elliot Mintz. At the hearing, Hilton unsuccessfully argued Mintz had told her she was permitted to drive for work-related reasons.    » read more »

Kansas Attorney General Morrison Announces Charges Against Pittsburg Police Major

May 7, 2007 -- Attorney General Paul Morrison announced today that Major Terry E. Davis of the Pittsburg Police Department was charged with two counts of Official Misconduct for using confidential information gained in the course of his office for his own gain or the gain of another. Each count is a Class A Person Misdemeanor.

The possible penalties on a Class A are up to a year in jail on each charge and a fine of up to $2,500 on each charge. If convicted of Official Misconduct, the officer or employee must forfeit their office or employment.    » read more »

Inmate Population To Exceed Budgeted Capacity

May 3, 2007 -- Carson City – Today, Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons toured the Warm Springs Correctional Center (WSCC) with Department of Corrections Director Howard Skolnik to assess the impact of overcrowding at Nevada’s correctional facilities. The most recent expansion project at WSCC brought the budgeted capacity from 260 to 510 inmates. By the end of May 2007, WSCC is expected to fill 603 beds.    » read more »
