Kazakhstan: Total signs Heads of Agreement with KazMunaiGas to develop the Khvalynskoye field

Oct. 06, 09 -- Total announces the signature of a Heads of Agreement (HOA) establishing the principles of a partnership with KazMunaiGas (KMG) for the development of the Khvalynskoye field, located offshore in the Caspian Sea on the border between Kazakhstan and Russia.

Khvalynskoye is a conventional gas condensate field located in water depths of 25 metres which will be developed by Lukoil (50%, operator). The gas produced from this field will be transported to Russia.

Under the terms of the HOA, Total and GdF-Suez will acquire a participation of 25% (Total 17%, GdF-Suez 8%) from the initial 50% stake held by KMG.    » read more »

ConocoPhillips Signs Kazakhstan Offshore Exploration Agreements

KazMunayGas, ConocoPhillips and Mubadala Announce Signing of Project Agreements for Exploration and Development of N Block, Offshore Kazakhstan

HOUSTON, June 11, 2009 – ConocoPhillips [NYSE: COP], JSC National Company KazMunayGas (KMG) and Mubadala Development Company PJSC (Mubadala) today announced that they have signed project agreements allowing the joint exploration and development of the Nursultan Block (N Block) located in offshore Kazakhstan.

KMG as majority owner will hold a 51 percent interest in the subsoil use contract and the remaining 49 percent will be shared equally between ConocoPhillips and Mubadala. The project will be operated by a Kazakh LLP, which will be jointly owned by the participants in proportion to their equity.    » read more »

United States Extends Strategic Nonproliferation Partnership with Kazakhstan

December 13, 2007 -- The United States of America and the Republic of Kazakhstan finalized an extension amendment to their bilateral Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Agreement today. The amendment was signed by U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates and by Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Idrissov. This CTR agreement, first signed in 1993 by Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev and then U.S. Vice President Al Gore, formed the foundation upon which our two governments built a strategic partnership against the threat of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).    » read more »

Russian, Kazakh Presidents Sign Joint Energy Agreements

10 May 2007 -- The presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan have signed an agreement to create a joint uranium enrichment center.

The accord was among several signed Thursday during talks between Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and his visiting Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in the Kazakh capital, Astana. Officials say products from the center will be available to other nations for use in generating energy.

Mr. Putin described the center, to be located in Siberia, as the first step in creating a "global nuclear energy infrastructure."    » read more »

Kazakhstan: Frozen Funds to Help Kazakh Youth under New International Agreement

WASHINGTON, May 3, 2007 — The World Bank has agreed to assist the governments of Kazakhstan, the United States and Switzerland in setting up an independent foundation in Kazakhstan that will use approximately $84 million in frozen funds for development projects involving poor children and youth in the Central Asian country. The World Bank support is described in an agreement filed earlier today in court in New York under which the three governments agree to a mechanism to release the funds to support activities aimed at improving child and youth welfare.    » read more »
