Kansas City Royals Announce 25-Man 2008 MLB Opening Day Roster

KANSAS CITY, MO, March 29, 2008 -- The Kansas City Royals today announced their Opening Day roster for the 2008 season following their exhibition game in Milwaukee. The club has optioned pitchers Neal Musser and Joel Peralta, infielder Ryan Shealy and outfielder Mitch Maier to their AAA affiliate in Omaha.

The Royals have assigned pitchers Brandon Duckworth, Brad Salmon and Hideo Nomo, and infielders Angel Berroa and Jason Smith to Omaha, all of whom were non-roster invitees to spring training. Nomo will report to Kansas City's minor league facility in Surprise, Ariz., to begin injury rehabilitation on a right groin strain.    » read more »

MLB, MLBPA to Stay Discipline of Jose Guillen, Jay Gibbons

03/28/2008 -- Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) have agreed to stay the discipline of Jose Guillen of the Kansas City Royals and Jay Gibbons of the Baltimore Orioles for 10 days to allow for further negotiations over revisions to the Joint Drug Agreement.

San Diego Padres Acquire Justin Huber from Kansas City Royals

In exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations

SAN DIEGO, 03/26/2008 -- The San Diego Padres announced today that they have acquired infielder/outfielder Justin Huber from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.

Justin Huber, 25, played parts of the last three Major League seasons with the Royals, appearing in 19 games at first base and three in left field. In 38 career Big League games, he is 20-for-98 (.204) with four doubles, seven RBI and nine runs scored.    » read more »

Kansas City Royals Trade Justin Huber to San Diego Padres for a Player to Be Named

03/26/2008, KANSAS CITY -- The Kansas City Royals traded first baseman/outfielder Justin Huber to the San Diego Padres in exchange for a player to be named.

Justin Huber, 25, has made brief appearances in the Majors with the Kansas City Royals the past three seasons after being acquired from the New York Mets on July 30, 2004.

Colorado Rockies Trade Ramon Ramirez to Kansas City Royals

03/26/2008, TUCSON, Ariz -- The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has traded right-handed pitcher Ramon Ramirez to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for a player to be named later.

Ramon Ramirez, 26, appeared in 22 games for the Colorado Rockies last season, posting a 2-2 record with an 8.31 ERA (17.1 ip, 16 er). The right-hander has pitched in 83 games for Colorado since his major league debut in 2006. As a rookie in 2006, he set the club record for strikeouts by a reliever with 61. Overall Ramirez is 6-5 with a 4.45 ERA (85 ip, 42 er) in parts of two major league seasons (83 games). He made nine appearances for the Rockies in Cactus League play this spring, going 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA (12.2 ip, 2 er).    » read more »

Kansas City Royals Sign Five Players to 2008 Contracts

03/02/2008, SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Kansas City Royals have agreed to terms with five players to 2008 one-year Major League contracts. With the announcement, the entire Kansas City Royals 40-man roster has agreed to terms for the 2008 season.

The five players who agreed to terms with the Kansas City Royals were: right-handed pitcher Brian Bannister, infielders Billy Butler, Alex Gordon and Ryan Shealy, and outfielder Joey Gathright.
