Congress Overrides President Bush’s Veto: Water Resources Development Act of 2007 Becomes Law

November 8, 2007 -- (Washington D.C.)- Congressman John P. Murtha, Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, joined his colleagues this week in voting to override President Bush’s veto of the Water Resources Development Act of 2007. In the past seven years, President Bush has vetoed only four pieces of legislation, fewer than any president since James Garfield occupied the White House more than 125 years ago.

Yet this month, Bush chose to veto the bipartisan Children’s Health Insurance Bill, which would provide health insurance to 10 million low-income children, because, he said, it “moves our health-care system in the wrong direction.”

Murtha: Washington County Airport Receives $948,124 Grant to Widen Runway

September 4, 2007 -- (Washington D.C.)- Congressman John P. Murtha, Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, announced today that Washington County has received a $948,124 grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation to widen the existing runway at the Washington County Airport.
