Warren County, New Jersey Man Sentenced for Phony Disability Insurance Scam

October 5, 2007 -- TRENTON - New Jersey Attorney General Anne Milgram and Criminal Justice Director Gregory A. Paw announced that a Warren County man was sentenced today for a disability insurance fraud.

According to Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Greta Gooden Brown, Mark A. Matyas, 37, of Hardwick, was ordered by Superior Court Judge John Pursel in Warren County to serve two years probation and pay a $5,000 civil insurance fraud fine. The sentence is pursuant to Matyas’ June 14 guilty plea to a criminal accusation charging him with third-degree insurance fraud.    » read more »

Kentucky Unauthorized Insurer Warning

October 03, 2007 -- FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 2, 2007) – The Kentucky Office of Insurance (KOI) is investigating reports that an unidentified company is selling health insurance in Kentucky without proper authorization.

A flyer, which has been faxed to consumers in Kentucky, does not specify a company name but offers a health care plan with monthly premiums ranging from $199 for single coverage to $359 for families. The flyer specifically states, “This is health insurance – not discount healthcare!”

KOI learned of the flyers from an insurance agent in northern Kentucky.    » read more »

Bell Pleads Guilty to Felony Medicaid Fraud

Company Received More Than $4,000,000 for Services Never Rendered

BALTIMORE, MD (September 20, 2007) - Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler announced today that Guy Anthony Bell, 44, of the 2700 block of Tallow Tree Road in Woodstock, pled guilty in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City to two counts of felony Medicaid Fraud for his role in billing the Medicaid program for more than $4,000,000 for services that were never performed. In all, Mr. Bell knowingly directed his employees to submit over 20,000 false statements to the Medicaid Program.    » read more »
