Statement by IMF African Consultative Group

August 20, 2007 -- The African Consultative Group1 of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), co-chaired by the Chairman of the African Caucus, Mr. Manuel Chang, Minister of Finance of Mozambique, and Mr. Rodrigo de Rato, Managing Director of the IMF, met today in Maputo, Mozambique. At the conclusion of their meeting, they issued the following statement:

Afghanistan: IMF and World Bank Support Afghanistan’s Completion Point under the Enhanced HIPC Initiative

WASHINGTON, July 9, 2007 –The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank's International Development Association (IDA) have agreed that the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has taken the steps necessary to reach its decision point under the enhanced Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative. The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan becomes the 31st country to reach its decision point and now qualifies for interim debt relief under the Initiative.[1]    » read more »
