June 20, 2008 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Barack Obama (D-IL) joined members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation today in sending a letter to the President in support of Governor Rod Blagojevich's request for Individual Assistance and Public Assistance for the 21 Illinois counties affected by severe flooding.

DoD Identifies Four Marine Casualties
June 16, 2008 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of four Marines who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Sgt. Michael Toussiant-Hyle Washington, 20, of Tacoma, Washington
Lance Cpl. Layton Bradly Crass, 22, of Richmond, Indiana
Pfc. Dawid Pietrek, 24, of Bensenville, Illinois
Pfc. Michael Robert Patton, 19, of Fenton, Missouri
All four Marines died June 14 while supporting combat operations in Farah Province, Afghanistan.
They were assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Blagojevich today activated an additional 400 Illinois National Guard troops to assist with flood efforts along the Mississippi River, bringing the total troops engaged in the flood fight to 1,100. Severe Storms Force Illinois Troops To Evacuate Arkansas Training Site
FORT CHAFFEE, Ark. (06/16/2008) - A severe thunderstorm swept through the Fort Chaffee and Fort Smith, Ark. area Sunday night forcing the evacuation of approximately 500 Illinois Army National Guard Soldiers from a remote training area. The Soldiers were moved into permanent barracks on Fort Chaffee due to wind damage to several tents the Soldiers were using for training at a Forward Operating Base.

Illinois Governor Announces $20 Million Grant For Public Health Emergency Preparedness
Grant from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will enhance state, local public health emergency preparedness efforts
June 16, 2008 -- SPRINGFIELD – Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today announced that Illinois will receive nearly $20 million from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to further enhance state and local preparedness for public health emergencies.
The CDC recently notified the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) that the Department will receive $19.9 million, as part of a $705 million package that is being awarded nationwide to public health departments in states and territories, as well as in four major metropolitan areas. The City of Chicago will also receive $11.4 million as part of this package. » read more »

June 10, 2008 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Barack Obama and Dick Durbin today released the following statement after Governor Rod Blagojevich directed the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) to coordinate emergency response efforts along the Embarras and Wabash rivers in southeastern Illinois.
