Oklahoma Station Owner Charged with Price Gouging

02/12/2008 - A Tulsa man is accused today of price gouging during the December ice storms after an investigation by the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Unit.

Mohammed Mannan, 38, was charged today in Tulsa County District Court with three misdemeanor counts of violating the Oklahoma Emergency Price Stabilization Act.

The charges were filed after three consumers contacted the attorney general’s office to report that the price of gas at a station owned by Mannan jumped from $2.69 to $3.29 after a state of emergency was declared in December.    » read more »

Oklahoma Governor Henry Appeals Ice Storm Aid Denial

January 24, 2008 -- Oklahoma City -- Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry today filed a formal appeal on behalf of Oklahoma ice storm victims, asking the Federal Emergency Management Agency to reverse its recent decision denying individual assistance to those hard hit by last month’s historic winter weather.

“Oklahoma ice storm victims deserve federal help, and we are asking FEMA to take another hard look at our assistance request,” said Gov. Henry. “We endured a disaster of historic proportions and have made a very strong case for federal aid.”    » read more »

Vows To Appeal Decision

January 15, 2008 -- Oklahoma City -- Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry said today he is deeply disappointed and frustrated that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has denied Oklahoma’s request for individual assistance for people hit hard by last month’s deadly ice storm.

The Governor said the state will appeal the decision.

Oklahoma Governor Henry Seeks Individual Assistance for Ice Storm

If Approved, Additional Counties Will Be Requested

January 09, 2008 -- Oklahoma City -- Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry has asked federal authorities to provide individual assistance to Oklahomans impacted by December’s catastrophic ice storm. While the initial request is for Oklahoma and Tulsa counties, more counties will be added to the request if individual assistance is approved.

"Many Oklahomans across the state are still suffering from the aftermath of the ice storm that left more than 640,000 homes and businesses without power, many for more than a week," the Governor said.    » read more »

Iowa Receives Presidential Disaster Declaration

January 04, 2008 -- DES MOINES – Iowa Governor Chet Culver today received confirmation that Iowa has received a Presidential Disaster Declaration authorized by President Bush for Public Assistance, which means state and local government and eligible non-profit agencies affected by December’s ice storms and severe weather will be eligible to receive federal disaster aid.    » read more »
