Washington, D.C., Oct. 16, 2009 — The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged billionaire Raj Rajaratnam and his New York-based hedge fund advisory firm Galleon Management LP with engaging in a massive insider trading scheme that generated more than $25 million in illicit gains. Indiana State ends contract with IBM for welfare services
INDIANAPOLIS -- October 15, 2009 -- Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels said today the state has terminated its contract with IBM for the delivery of welfare services. The contract was canceled because the company did not make satisfactory progress to improve services to welfare applicants and recipients under a plan to correct deficiencies.
In its place, the Family and Social Services Administration will go to a hybrid system that will incorporate successful elements of the old welfare delivery system and what is known as the modernized system. The hybrid system will include more face-to-face contact and more localized team-based case management. » read more »
IBM Awarded Analytics Contract to Improve Programming and Planning for U.S. Special Operations Command
BETHESDA, Md. - 14 Oct 2009: The U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has awarded IBM (NYSE: IBM) a technology and services contract to modernize the planning, programming, budgeting and execution functions within the command. USSOCOM and IBM will work together to design, develop and integrate the Special Operations Resource Business Information System (SORBIS) using advanced analytics and reporting capabilities to speed access to information to improve the command's business enterprise.

IBM Awarded National Institutes of Health Funding to Advance Genome Sequencing Technology
YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - 12 Oct 2009: IBM Research (NYSE: IBM) today announced it has received an "Advanced Sequencing Technology Award" from the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), part of the National Institutes of Health, to design a silicon-based "DNA Transistor" that will advance genome sequencing technology and generate progress in health care diagnosis and practice.
As part of the "Revolutionary Genome Sequencing Technologies - The $1000 Genome", NHGRI selected the development of technologies aimed to sequence mammalian genomes for $1,000 or less. ZURICH - 23 Jun 2009: In an effort to achieve energy-aware computing, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH), and IBM today announced plans to build a first-of-a-kind water-cooled supercomputer that will directly repurpose excess heat for the university buildings.
The innovative system, dubbed Aquasar, is expected to decrease the carbon footprint of the system by up to 85% and estimated to save up to 30 tons of CO2 per year, compared to a similar system using today's cooling technologies.(1) » read more »

IBM Inks Tech Services Agreement With ACE
ARMONK, N.Y. - 18 Jun 2009: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced it signed a $97 million information technology (IT) services agreement with the ACE Group (NYSE: ACE), a global leader in insurance and reinsurance. The revamped and extended contract will support ACE's infrastructure and application management environments in North America.
More specifically, IBM will provide mainframe, mid-range server, storage, network, and disaster recovery services as well as help desk, workstation, mobile device support, and application management services for a portion of ACE's portfolio.
