Hurricane Dean: Hurricane Dean Hits Mexico, Loses Strength

21 August 2007 -- Hurricane Dean made landfall on Mexico's Caribbean coast and quickly began losing power as it moved inland. Forecasters warn the storm may regain strength later Tuesday when it moves back into open waters.

The eye of Hurricane Dean made landfall for the first time early Tuesday, battering Mexico's coastline on the Yucatan peninsula, where scores of residents and tourists took refuge from heavy winds and rain. Weather forecasters said it was a category 5 storm at the time of impact, with maximum sustained winds of 257 kilometers per hour.    » read more »

Hurricane Dean: Mexico Begins to Assess Damage From Hurricane Dean

21 August 2007 -- Mexican officials say no casualties have been reported since Hurricane Dean hit the nation's Caribbean coast and moved inland. The storm may still be a threat as it continues to move west toward central Mexico.

Officials in Mexico's Yucatan peninsula began assessing the damage from Hurricane Dean after the category 5 storm hit the coastline early Tuesday bringing, winds of 265 kilometers per hour.    » read more »

Hurricane Dean: Texas Governor Perry Orders Implementation of Resource Demobilization Plan

Aug. 21, 2007 -- AUSTIN – With Hurricane Dean tracking southward, sparing Texas from any major impact, Texas Governor Rick Perry today ordered the state to begin withdrawing resources that had been pre-deployed to South Texas. Approximately 1,600 buses, Texas Military Forces search and rescue aircrafts and 4,500 personnel, Texas elite search and rescue teams, and 80 refuelers were staged in the Rio Grande Valley region and San Antonio to support communities’ preparedness efforts for potential storm effects.    » read more »

Hurricane Dean: Texas National Guard ready for Hurricane Dean strike

ARLINGTON, Va. – About 4,700 National Guard Soldiers and Airmen, most of them from Texas, were making final preparations Monday for a rapid response should Hurricane Dean strike the Texas coast later this week.

Another 5,000 Texas Soldiers and Airmen are poised for activation should Texas Gov. Rick Perry deem it necessary.

As of 8 a.m., today, Hurricane Dean was about 440 miles east of Belize City over the Caribbean and was moving west at about 21 mph with maximum sustained winds near 150 mph.    » read more »

Aug. 20, 2007 -- AUSTIN – Texas Governor Rick Perry today advised Texans to keep a wary eye on Hurricane Dean, despite current projections that it will strike Mexico rather than the Texas coast.

August 20, 2007 -- ATLANTA - Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue announced today that more than 40 Georgia National Guard members will deploy this week to Texas to provide emergency relief efforts for citizens affected by Hurricane Dean, should the storm's course move northward.
