More Than 100 Dead in Tropical Storm Noel

02 November 2007 -- Rescue crews in the Dominican Republic are continuing to search by boat and helicopter for survivors of Tropical Storm Noel. The storm is blamed for at least 118 deaths, mainly in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Weather forecasters upgraded Tropical Storm Noel to a hurricane overnight as the system moved north into the Atlantic Ocean. Experts at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said the storm was moving away from tropical waters that had fed it, but said it still posed a threat to the eastern United States and Canada.    » read more »

Tropical Storm Noel Strengthens Into Hurricane

02 November 2007 -- The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Noel has strengthened into a hurricane and now has sustained winds near 120 kilometers per hour as it moves northeast from the Bahamas toward Bermuda.

Forecasters said at about midnight UTC Thursday that a hurricane watch remains in effect for the northwestern Bahamas, which could receive as much as 46 centimeters of rain.    » read more »

October 15, 2007 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today a reimbursement program that will provide relocation assistance to disaster victims displaced by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The damage and destruction caused by the hurricanes resulted in many Gulf Coast residents temporarily relocating to various locations around the country.
