Kilroy on Funding for Worthington Sewer Project
November 16, 2009 -- WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy has announced that the City of Worthington, OH has received $500,000 in appropriation funds to be used for the improvement of sewer systems for a cleaner watershed in the city. Kildee on G.M. Repaying Government Loans Ahead of Schedule
November 16, 2009 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, General Motors announced that it plans to start repaying its government loans more than five years ahead of schedule and that it generated $3.3 billion in cash in the third quarter. Although the automaker did not post a profit, it exceeded expectations and increased revenue by 21 percent from the second quarter.

Hodes on Making Health Insurance More Affordable for the Unemployed
November 16, 2009 -- Washington, DC -- Today, Congressman Paul Hodes announced his support for legislation that would make health insurance more affordable for unemployed families in New Hampshire. Currently, unemployed individuals and families receive 9 months of COBRA premium assistance under the jobs and recovery plan that passed earlier this year, but this assistance is beginning to run out this month.

Rep. Higgins on Application Period for SAFER Federal Fire Grants
November 16, 2009 -- Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) announced the application window for grants provided through the Department of Homeland Security Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Services (SAFER) program is now open.
SAFER grants are aimed at increasing the number of firefighters and enhancing a department’s ability to ensure that their communities have adequate protection from fire and fire related hazards. This year Congress appropriated approximately $210 million for the SAFER program.

Rep. Capuano Calls on President Obama to Create Jobs with TARP Funds
Sends Letter to the President Urging Action
November 16, 2009 -- Representative Mike Capuano today called on President Barack Obama to use the remaining funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) to create jobs.
In a letter to the President, Rep. Capuano noted that the unemployment rate is at a "26 year high" and asked the President to "direct the remaining TARP funds towards projects that put more Americans back to work." With $210 billion in TARP funds currently unspent, and another $50 billion expected to be repaid in the next year, Rep. Capuano urged that these funds should be used for job creation.
"TARP was established to address the financial crisis," state Rep. Capuano in his letter. "I do not believe we can reasonably say that the job of TARP is complete." » read more »
